Amen to Oceanlab. I don't understand how people can say that George Bush has policies that attack muslims. Let's look at the fact: All the terrorists are muslim extremists, so naturally, precautions have to be taken against all the muslims that are suspected. Before Sept. 11, these Al-Queda members were able to infiltrate American society and orchestrate a terrorist attack of enourmous magnitude completely un-obstructed. In a post Sept. 11 world, if some of those civil liberties have to be taken away from muslims who are deemed a threat, then so be it. It's all for the greater good. And it's no wonder that no one in world politics takes Canada seriously. One thing, our economy is insignificant, but did anyone hear the speach that Jean Chretien gave where he criticized Western Nations for their arrogance and greed as the cause of 3rd world poverty? Billions and billions of dollars a year are sent in foreign aid to poor nations from richer nations like Canada and the US and low and behold all that money is absorbed by the tyrannical regimes that run these countries whether it be in Iraq or Zimbabwe (and the people still starve). Then, as soon as the US makes any mention of regime changes in these places, they are lambasted. Why? Because it's seen as putting their foot in other people's business? NOt to say that the US can not have it's own gain in mind regarding all foriegn policy, but we can't forget that the US wants to help other countries aswell. I think that as Canadians we need to spend more time criticising our own Federal government and Prime Minister who seems to be allowed to shoot his mouth off about anything, no matter how little sense it makes. I think he's worse than bush and an embarressment to our country.

Nah i don't believe the US has ANY ANY ANY sincere intentions on making the world a better place. Everything they do, and everything they involve themselves in, is for their own interests. I mean everything. If for some reason they appear sincere, it's all about public relations. Look at what went on in Rwanda ...wars in Sierra Leonne ...elsewhere too ...what did the US do ??? Not much. Why were they in Yugoslavia ??? Because they were protecting the world from a tyrant ??? Ya right. It was for their own interests ...they want a stable Europe for their economy ...they don't care what goes on in africa because they have nothing to offer ...and in the countries they do "help", don't think they're not getting a huge share of the profits (eg ...capital intensive work like mining). Their presence in the Gulf ...well that's obvious. Israel getting attacked by the uneducated ??? New York getting attacked by the uneducated ??? Ya right ...most suicide bombers are university students and graduates ...even the 9/11 attackers. Why did the US help Japan after the 2nd world war ??? Because they felt sorry for what they did. Nope...to ensure there was a symbol of Capitalist success amidst Communist countries and the Cold War. The point is ...the US does things for their own interests ...and that means staying on top. It's only a matter of time before they get dethroned, it's inevitable ...no great empire in history lasted forever ...nothing's forever ...that's what scares the US. It doesn't matter that the world economy revolves around the US at all ...they've made it like that, and don't want rivals ...and they'll do anything to keep it that way. That doesn't justify the attacks ...but it makes me care A LOT LESS.
