strictly specking for myself i don't like it when styles become sensationalized and commercialized. seems like the style has a whole has sold out. armada music, Spinnin' Records, need i say more? When searching through trance/Prog mostly look back and dig through tracks in the 97-2002 range. there was plenty of commercialization back then too but i find it easer to weed through the crap when its already a couple of years old. good music will always shine through.

on another note it seems like the overall catch of the music has changes form the 90s till now. in the 90s i remember liking tracks that reminded me of the Unknown, UFOs, ETs, Etc.. simple tracks that made mo body feel made my mind wonder. seems like there has been a switch in feel. to a much more human aspect (I miss you/ everybody have a good time songs). energy level and structure driven tracks. theres not a lot of experimentation going on in trance now a days aside from having a dubstep drop which is a crowd pleasing cheep cop-out IMO.

i will also have you know i am on my floor drunk. so there is probably a lot of loop-hole in my post.

and another thing people should use inter net forums more.

There's a few reasons why I think trance turned sour in 2005/06:

-Paul Van Dyk dethroning Tiesto in 2005. Despite his haters, I think Tiesto in his prime kept trance alive.
-Andy Bury leaving Solar Stone in 2006
-Mark Spoon's death in Jan. '06
-Hard trance falling off after 2005. No one cared about Dumonde's last few tracks in 2006 and '07.
-A spawn of Noob producers surfaced and started churning out tracks like no one's business.

That was a decent YouTube educational broadcast. Lots of relevant music discussion info. Never was interested in the technical aspects of trance. Don't get me wrong but what exactly is there worth dicussing if not the love? I got my start with trance in '01. Well technically it must have been euro house. It's simple it became too easy to produce. Everyone does it half the people at my gym think they can and it bacame quantity over quality and now its derp berlin - in my anus (emma hewitts vocals) and it sells. And sadly the stuff all the masters used to do has turned into one big popularity contest. I dont go out anywhere as i hate it all. lol, I'm tryin'. But it seems that everyone on here is obsessed with prog house, or early 90's trance, and since I still hadn't learned to tie my own shoes in the early 90's, let alone have any concept that music could be made with computers, I don't have all that many people to identify with here. :P

I've been working at keeping the kind of sound I love alive, but in a scene dominated by "Trance 2.0," dubstep, and a horrifying lack of funds to do any REAL promotion, it's slow going.

Not that I'm complaining, though. I like a challenge.
