those are the styles i've done. most recent two being wing chun and chi-to ryu, in which i just got my first degree black this past may.
i've been doing this stuff my whole life. eventually you realize that you're not learning how to fight in a certain style, but you're learning how to fight. that's why i can't help but laugh at TKD kids that think they could flashkick someone in a bar brawl.

oh, btw, kung fu (gung fu), didn't originate in china. bodhidharma taught the basic movements of martial arts to what would become the shaolin somewhere between 420 and 520 ad. |
the spelling of ving tsun, or wing chun, or wing tsun, is dependant on which lineage of "wing chun" you're talking about. Moy Yat, using Ving Tsun, and William Cheung using Wing Tsun. "Wing Chun" is the accepted general western translation. Doesn't mean ving tsun is any more chinese than wing chun. :P
and kung-fu did not originate from bodhidharma introducing movements into the shaolin temple. Kung fu has been around LONG before the shaolin temple. Although Shaolin did give birth to many of the popular and famous styles of kung fu, martial arts has been around in China long before from secular and military sources.

Oh, and to all of you who want to find the Martial Art that's just about raw- real - street fighting...... so you can kick someone's ass....
then you're really missing the point of Martial Arts. A complete Martial Art, along with attack and defence techniques, includes philosophy, health training, internal training, ethics, traditions, healing/medicine, and aesthetic/artistic refinement.
If you learn how to fight, how to kick someone's ass.. then you're a fighter, a brawler, a thug... thats it.
If you have the ability to fight, combined with the other abilities I've listed... then you can begin to call yoruself a Martial Artist.
