They are two completely different experiences. To me, partying outdoors with thousands of people is an awesome experience, which in my now 'older' partying days, I prefer much more than dark rammed clubs rooms. I can't say I've been to any traditional club where the same experience can be replicated. Having said that, you are absolutely right to point out the MAJOR downside of festivals here - the absolutely ridiculous set lengths. They try to pack dozens of DJs to cater to a wide spectrum music taste while, as you mentioned, leaving no room for the dj to truly show his/her craft in taking the crowd through a journey. It is hard to truly appreciate the story music can tell you with the silly 90 min sets.
