It's just the culture, really. The sheer fact I left home some 5 years before I got married (living in the same city as my parents, no less) is quite an aberration here. I did, by the way, try to leave earlier. But, the economy here doesn't help, and an early launch would equal being poor for the rest of my life.

I didn't make any improper use of tense. I used "you" in the universal sense, in the same way "one" can be used as a pronoun if one would like to make oneself sound like the Queen. Just ignore him, mate. He's not singling you out, he does it with everyone... amusingly, he seems to target native speakers most of the time. Didn't he try to correct Brian (Vector A) a while back as well?

Although, if you read it all again, he's likely to blame me for the confusion (because I wrote "age 24" rather than as "aged 24") again.
