About a year ago if you came to Guv. all you could hear was Progressive. Go there now - about 50% of stuff that Mark plays is trance or at least progressive trance. About a year ago, Breathe at System was only getting progressive DJs.. Look what they do now: book John Fleming twice, Mauro Picotto, Mistress Barbara. And resident DJ nights at Breathe are not nearly as popular as they used to be.

Top 100 DJs list will be released tomorrow.. We'll see how well prog. did this year !

Ilia i see you dont visit Guv that much Mark Oliver will always continue to play progressive. you can't really estimate those facts coz they are incorrect. you only listed a very small percent of events all of the whole year so far all other times Guv, System, Red Square, Tonic and watever clubs their are in toronto have brought house & progressive dj's. the past couple of months there has been some many house dj's that include, Satoshi Tomiie twice, Deep Dish twice, Steve Lawler, Lee Burridge, John Digweed, Tom Stephan, Eric Morillo, John Acquiva, Junior Sanchez, Danny Howells, Hybrid (progressive), Anthony Pappa, Saeed & Palash, Dave Seaman, Roger Sanchez and many other's that i can name the house & progressive scene is huge and always will be. the scene in UK is big, i dont understand how people say its small coz on every event that UK's have has a special tent always for house & progressive e.g GSSS, Creamfields (wasn't that the best tent of all, DJ MG give evidence ), GKGL...and who cares about top 100 dj's???

and btw you should attempt more progressive parties once you turn legal age and you will see that progressive was generated from Trance.

lol oki there now russ progressive trance was generated from trance, but progressive the gender itself is a sub-gender from house musik, like i said many times, house-musik has about 50 or more nowadays sub-genders...

Well, Top 100 is determined by clubbers like you and me. Thus it is a very good representative of what's popular and what's not.

And I wasn't denying that prog was big in the UK.. In fact I said, that UK is the only country where prog is popular. I also added that it began to die slowly. And I think it's true. If Tiesto is indeed #1 on this year's top 100 list, that is a very good indication of that.

The only reason why Guv, and all other clubs in Toronto for that matter, has been focusing on progy and house djs is because they are targetting an older demographic.

An older crowd wants mellow music, so that they can smooze and socialize. Funny thing is this same crowd, or at least 90% of them, could care less who'se spinning.

The last thing I want to do when I am partying is smooze and socialize, in fact almost everyone of the DJs bluE_Neon has mentioned will play an upbeat energized Progressive set that makes you want to shake your ass all over the dance floor. For those that do not attend live parties where Progressive DJs are hosting, their sets are much more energetic and bumping than a lot of their cds. Their music consists of nice bulid ups, and wicked sampling as well as some never thought of remixing. I think that progressive is still growing if anything and I hope it continues to bring new talent forcing the scene to grow.

UK scene: A slow and painfull death...

This just came off www.ivibes.nu

Ministry of Sound's dance magazine is shutting down amidst a poor economy and lack of sales, following in the footsteps of another dance magazine '7'.

BBC Radio 1 reported that Ministry of Sound's flagship dance magazine "Ministry" is shutting its doors after its final issue on the 17th of November, just after 7 Magazine, another UK based dance magazine closed its doors earlier this month.

Although the previously popular magazine reached a peak time distribution of 65,000 copies and maintained profits throughout its distribution period, Ministry's global expansion plans require a new focal point for media publishing.

With Ministry shutting down, Ministry of Sound have suggested that a rebranded concept will be opening up within the near future to promote a forward looking strategy.

To those of you who have been avid readers of the magazine, you can either wait for the revamped version or check out other major magazines.
