And keep in mind that most people in the US start out listening to cheese LoL. Sad, but true. I've noticed that most of us won't listen to a song unless it has words to it (Americans in general).

word to mucka and teknohead.
zokle - cheese is a little hard to DEFINE, but it basically applies to an instantly "catchy" track with simple, shallow composing (see => in the riff or breakdown)
like, atb - 9pm till i come or alice deejay - better off alone
you listen to enough trance, you'll get a feel for it... and probably expand your "cheese horizons" to ayla for example
and then the elitist start bashing lots of good songs, like timo mass - ubik and even sasha & emerson - scorchio (SACRILEGE!!!!!!!!!)
i personally enjoy some, like the occasional fragma, but stuff like "castles in the sky" pisses me off to no avail.

its also become the cool thing to do, start bashing tracks as cheesy just because you dont like it, or everyone else does...

for example, many people call tiesto's productions (and sets) cheese. in some cases, they're right... but it can be good, such as the magik series

There will always exist people who think/claim they are more eL!tE than others. Pretty damn silly IMHO. And I really can't see what they gain from flaming other people for their musical taste.

Sorry, I just can't stand it when somebody brings up something I can't stand. I can't stand Fragma "Everytime You Need Me", I don't even consider it to be trance, I consider it to be very cheesy dance pop. There is some cheesy stuff I can listen to. If I hear Sash! for example, on the radio I just leave it on, I can listen to it. But if I hear Fragma Alice Deejay or any commercial hardhouse poop like Pucblic Domain etc I feel like commiting suicide, I can't stand it. I have got some real shit records in my collection, in early 97 I bought Gina G "Ti Amo" for the Trouser Enthusiasts Mix (funny for somebody who's remixed Armin, Mothers Pride, Tomski etc to also remix stuff like that) which was actually brilliant, but I always feel embaressed when somebody looks through my collection and sees something by Gina G! I also bought a few Dannii Minogue singles for the Trouser Enthusiasts mixes which were spot on (TE mix of "All I Wanna Do" is one of my all time faves), but still it doesn't look good in my collection! Though if you're new to trance I suppose it may be okay listening to Fragma!

Lol, i just came to think about why such trance/pop has got the name cheese. If it's obvious pls don't flame, but i can't see the relation And about that Fragma tune, the Dumonde Mix has nearly no vocals and i think it's a great tune. Just saw someone say that none of the mixes are good, but i think that one is great, and it differs a lot from the original (hence, it's good)

Peace

man, i dont know how you can call sash! cheese... for its time... its classic
maybe if it was produced now. but cmon, with encore un fois, adelante, and all those others (cant come to mind right now)
he's one of the pioneers of dance music.

like someone else said, its true... who cares what is / isnt cheese, just listen to whatever gets you off
