i think you're right.

you know the best place to try and get an order in?

i.e. the biggest online retailer for gear? as the smaller outlets will likely be forced to the back of the queue...

It does sound very mono doesn't it? I hope its just because they used a mono cable to record. One thing I actually love about the Evolver is that it sounds stereo and even has seperate outputs for each of the four voices.

I would try Guitar Guitar or Red Dog Music first. They've always given me first class customer service and also price match. Scan is also worth a look as most people don't realise they also do synth gear.

They're all big enough to carry stock but for some reason people flock to the shitty customer service of DV247.

It's also worth considering that $999 may actually translate to a price over £1k here.

Trying to find out on the GS thread, but they usually prefer hundreds of pages of speculation than actual facts.

That's way too high. They'll never sell any at that price.

My advice would be to not jump on the early bandwagon. Give it 6-12 months for demand to recede and hopefully the price will eventually decrease too.

There can't be too many keyboardists out there that want a poly analog. It's not a bread & butter synth. Gospel musicians won't want it.

I was joking, of course - that price is ridiculously low! I'm guessing that will put the module somewhere around $700-800? Not that it matters to me, since I'm not in the market for another synth these days, but I think they're going to have a hard time keeping up with demand.

and there I was genuinely thinking it was too high...especially since it's a Behringer and likely to break in a year.

Meh, I don't know about that. I had several Behringer units (e.g., compressors, EQs, and gates) in my PA rack back in my live band days and they were all roadworthy, were constructed solidly, and handled heavy use/abuse better than some other brands that I owned. Some of those units lasted 6-8 years of continuous work (3-5 shows/week). I also had one of their headphone distribution units and an FX unit in my home studio for several years and they also served me well. The headphone unit is the only one that ever failed on me (1 channel after 5 or so years of continuous use). The problem I had with them is that they could be noisy, so you had to be selective in how you used them. The noise levels were negligible for live band work, but they were high enough that I rarely/never used them in a recording signal chain.

Granted, that's all been rackmount gear. I have seen reports that construction quality on some of their other products (e.g., stompboxes) is pretty poor, so who knows what to expect with this synth. A few of the comments I've seen from people who have actually used the synth claim that the construction seems to be very solid. I guess we'll find out soon.

Behringer stuff doesn't just break down, it's a myth. The complaint about it is that it's always been sonically second rate compared to stuff costing 10 or 100 times more.

Well, duh.

Even that's not true any more.
