if you use that, your mp3's are pretty much identical to the original CD.....extremely good quality (to the human ear anyhow)

ive heard a lot about lame and EAC so im finally trying to use em. but freedb doesn't seem to work... it always says 'cant connect' and im not sure why. any ideas? i dont need a proxy for any other internet things, so its not that.

second question, what do you put in the command line options for lame within EAC to use vbr ? thanks

extremly old music, it wont be a surprise if .ogg (vorbis)(verbos) takes .mp3 place and you'll then have to pay for the .mp3 formats that you download at the time.....

ogg is better than MP3 in virtually every way but lets face it, it came out after MP3 (right?) and MP3 caught on much faster, so ogg kind of drowned in MP3's wake (pardon the terrible metaphors)

i have nothing against .ogg files but i think i will be continuing to use MP3...it's just more common...

I say we start a movement and everything we rip should be put in .ogg I hate the way mp3s sound on my system with distorted lows and highs (ESPECIALLY lows). I find that .ogg just sounds much clearer and better, and the smaller file size is great.

Every CD that I actually bought in stores is ripped onto my hard-drive in .ogg, after I deleted all my mp3 rips. And most mp3s I have are not 256kbp, only 192 if i'm lucky.

hmm, i don't use freeb myself, i just manually tag and name my files.

Second Q: i am using the alt preset: standard, that is VBR, i use a pre made profile by chris myden (www.chrismyden.com), it should be hosted on his site somewhere, if not, PM me. He also runs a direct connect hub for eac users, but i just use the EMC :P
