to be honest, i think anyone can dance.

im 19 and a half now, and i only started dancing about 9-10 months ago. i was one of those kids who would stay home from the school dances because they were afraid to go cos they couldnt dance.

i went to my first rave, pumped up and excited about finally getting to go somewhere with good music and other ppl that love the music as much as me.

and then when i got there the whole thing from school reoccurred and i was like "i dont wanna dance, ppl are gonna think i look stupid" etc etc. so i sat down and watched someone danced that i thought looked good. gay, straight, bisexual, who knows. i watched them and i went off somewhere away from him and tried to do his dance. first time ever dancing comfortably in front of other ppl and i even had someone come up to me and tell me i was cutting some sick moves.

4 months later i got asked to join a dance troupe, more than half of the people in it have some kind of dancing background, and now im being paid to dance on stage at raves alongside the djs and pump up the crowd.

people learn best in one of three different ways, visually, audibly and kinesthetically.

all you have to work out is which you are. if you learn best visually, watch someone and visualise yourself doing their moves. if you learn best audibly then just connect with the music. kinesthically, you just try follow the person while they are dancing, from across the room or behind them.

i know it sounds kinda stupid to copy someones moves, but you have to start somewhere. just copy their basic step and build onto it your own stuff once you are comfortable with a basic step that you can repeat.

just get yourself comfortable and mildly confident and nothing will stop you.

edit: anyone in Brisbane going to Advent*jah on November 29? we are dancing in the main room sometime during the night. look for a short dude in a red hat and come say hi afterwards

are we talking about the kinda funky, liquidy style?

if its the one im thinking i definately want to learn it. only a handful of ppl here in brisbane can do it and its so refreshing to see something way different to what everyone else is doing.
