i wouldn't classify it as a documentary either, i guess it's the closest thing to it, but.......... i dunno, watch it again and then tell me if you still think it is....... anyways, there was a second part to that dvd, where they show exactly where they shot what and how they shot it...

cool.. can we keep this thread going?
I just thought of a bunch of Italian films re: Malena/Monica Bellucci and, besides, my mind is on Italy lately

Fellini's Amarcord
La Dolce Vita
of course, Life is Beautiful [the only movie I ever cried to]
The Bicycle Thief
and Cinema Paradiso
off top of my head
I know, I'm going way into ancient past, but those are a must

'Before the rain' on accounts of traditions (re: Behind the sun)

Ortemy, give me some Russian ones, although I've seen a lot of those.. and while we're mentioning thiefs, there's a good Russian one as well, simply 'Vor' (or 'Thief')

Lea, if u liked Thief(Vor) u should also watch the movie Oligarch(Oligarh), they have the same actor playing there for the main character.
Ok, other good russian movies that I watched recently:

East-West (Vostok - Zapad) - my fav. out of the recent russian movies, a story of russian emmigrant coming back to USSR after World War Two.

Captured in Caucase (Kavkazkii Plennik) - remake of one of the famous Tolstoy(the guy who wrote "War and Peace") stories, it's about the first war in Chechnya.

Utomlennye Solncem (Hell knows how to translate that ) - movie about Stalin times before World War Two.

Siberian Barber (Sibirskii Ciryul'nik) - i think the movie was actually made for non-russian audience and it's main purpose was to show off LOL and to explain what russians are made of.

Wedding (Svad'ba) - has the same puprose as Siberian Barber but is more russian audience-oriented. My dad watched it two years ago during Toronto Film Festival, he said that most of the people who are not familiar with russian culture walked out of the theatre shocked

The War (Voina)- movie about second conflict in Chechnya. It's ok, but kinda hard to watch and reminded me of "Behind the Enemy Line" (hate that movie). I dont like propaganda crap.

Brother(Brat) is ok, but Brother 2 is complete crap. I would not really recommend watching it.

Quickie(Davay sdelaem eto po-bystromu) - not really russian movie, was made in US by russian producer and there are three russian actors playing in it, one of them is Mashkov (the guy from Thief). Personally I did not really like the movie, but it recieved a lot of good reviews. Btw, it's nothing sex-related

These are all recent russian movies I watched worth mentioning, there are couple of movies I still wanna watch - Cuckoo and some others. There are also tons of a bit older russian movies and "soviet classic" movies, but it just would be too long to list them all.

Italy is definately a cool place. I would really want to visit it one day. I dont really have time(not to mention the money) with all the university bs i have to deal with, but after university - for sure... It would be a good trip - going to Italy for couple of weeks and chilling in Ibiza for about a week after

East-West is awesome! I've seen it a couple of times. I always recommend it too
I haven't even heard of Kavkazkiy Pnennik, will see if my video store has it.
Utomlennye Solncem = Burnt by the sun.. oh, well Mihalkov at his best [Did it receive an oscar in best foreign category? Or am I tripping?]
Siberian Barber [Mahalkov directed, right?] I love Menshikov, he's so cool
Svadba, Brat.. I saw them and so-so :|
Quickie.. hahah I don't think I even heard about it.
Oligarch and Cuckoo I hear are great and both were sold out at the Toronto film festival, so I've been trying to get a hold of them, but the video store that has them has only european system [PAL-SECAM] VHS, which I don't have a video for.

THANX!

ok, this sucks, I went to rent out "Sex and Lucia" and "Talk To Her", but they're both not available... Sex and Lucia was supposed to come out last week but they haven't got it yet, and they don't have Talk To Her at all... ugh... stupid BB...

anyway, rented out "The Ring", heard it was good from a number of people, and if you like scary fucked up shit, GO SEE IT... it's really good... i generally hate this genre, but went on a hunch with this one and it was worth it...

Don't be so impatient! 'Talk to her' is still in theatres [Cumberland].
I saw 'The Ring' and it really was trippy

Ortemy, you're right, there's a lot of those in North York, aka RussianTown
