Well, I'm not surprised. We're crap and probably didn't even deserve to get into the playoffs. They backed their asses in anyway and were lucky Florida lost out on the tie breaker.
I love Bob Gainey, I really do. But he seems to have built this team on speed and skill, which clearly is not getting it done. I think that with a new owner, Gainey might quit or be fired. He's been pretty good at firing head coaches (why did he fire Elmer Fudd Julien again!?!?), so maybe he should just fire himself and we can start from scratch again. They are not going to win anything with the Kostitsyns or a guy like Josh Gorges as a top 4 D man and guys like Tom Kostopolous.
I hate to sound like Don Cherry, but there are too many inconsistent Europeans on this team. Way too many Russians who just don't show up when the team needs them. I do give Kovalev his due though...he wasn't so great last night but at least it looks like he was trying. Where the hell as Koivu been? BRUTAL!
I like Carey Price, but I'm starting to think he might not be ready for the pressure cooker in Montreal. Making him the number one last year and trading Huet (for nothing!) was also a bad move. I've heard rumours that Gainey couldn't really do anything to improve the team at the trade deadline because of Gillet's financial fuck ups and misery and he didn't want to take on any more contracts.
I think Gillet should sell the team. I dont' want an American owning Canada's hockey team anyway. He's more interested in Nascar and Liverpool (which he co-owns with Hicks, which I feel is clearly a conflict of interest in the NHL since Hicks owns the Stars). I certainly don't want that separatist bitch Celine Dion owning the Habs either. Sell it to a sports man who's gonna spend the money every year! My vote would be for Serge Savard (if he has the money) or the Montreal Impact owner or even Ballsillie if he's interested. |
Yes we got lucky to even make it to the playoffs. But we tend to forget how many players were missing on that squad. Markov, Lang, Tanguay, Bouillon, etc... They are not superstars who can individually carry a team on their shoulders, but as a team, having those guys back in the line-up would have changed a lot of the dynamics and I'd be ready to bet that we'd be looking at a different scenario right now.
Price. Man. I cant stand his I dont care attitude. He has such a bad body language. Very weak. No fire in his eyes. Rrrgh.
And as far as we're concerned, Gillett did a pretty decent job as owner of this team. What did he do wrong? It has nothing to do with him that we couldnt get Brière or Lecavalier or Hossa or whatever. And it's not Céline who'd be buying. It's René. And René is a business man. So ya go for it if you have to.
Anyways, see you next year les boys.
