hi people ..I know this thread is gone far too long bt I js tawt
I would add some vaild points.CD vs Vinyls :-
1.Choice/Preferance - play what u like /or what u comfaortable with
2.Change/Adaptability - In any industry u gotta be able to accept and cater for change, otherwise we would still be using IBM386 with a monochrome monitor.
3.I myself play vinyl ,but I'm slowly moving over to cd's as the cost of cd decks js dnt fit into my budget at the moment.
4.The only thing I dnt really like about digital is the easily availabilty of the media to everyone and I mean everyone.
its like I would spend months hunting down a track on plastic and
then u'd get this one oke who would js use limewire/soulseek and
bum the tune of there.Inevitably artists, producers also suffer from this.
Cheers Ashal

They are not backcuing cd decks like geeks in the sakes of Pioneers product placement, they are touring the world with 4 powerbooks, 3 allen & heath mixers, a 303 ,a 303 clone,Ableton live, traktor dj studio,1 evolution midi controller, 1 bitstream 3x midi controller as well as various other stuff you can hopefully identify for me.
Pics?
Past = Vinyl
Future = CD/DVD/HDVD/Blue Ray/...online stream ??
Present = Endless debate on Vinyl or CD
End of the story

To be honest I've never used vinyl's at a gig, I've been into cd's but now I'm getting into Vinyl's simply because I love the big records and are collectors items to me. They both have their advantages and disadvantages but I think they're both great in different ways.

I like vinyl because i learned on it, but its really expensive... must be purchasing records, needles, slipmats, etc etc..
Things like Stanton Final Scratch and Serrato kinda bridge the gap.
Honestly I think CDs are a better deal cuz tracks = free and if i woulda done it again I would go CD. But theres something about the allure of vinyl. I've heard it explained by one girl as "the sexy ability to manipulate a turntable"

How are you legally getting tracks for free???
I think the sexy bit of vinyl's long gone...
I get odd looks from other DJ's when they still see my record bag...
I think I'm about to stop buying vinyl altogether... I'm still as passionate about music as I ever have been, but the days of spending an entire paycheck on records and then living on cheese on toast and 2 minute noodles are long gone...
word to what the last guy said...I love vinyl and sometimes Ill find a track that I want to be able to play on vinyl even though it is available digitally, but there are so many options now for DLing songs (legally). 3beat is no longer selling vinyl, so their mp3 database is big. Juno.co.uk is better for vinyl in my opinion, but they, too, have a digital selection. Release records is also digital now as well...so there are many options and it is better spending 20 bucks for 10 brand new amazing tracks, instead of only 2.
just my opinion...
I use both! Why "Vinyls vs. CDs" when it can be "Vinyls AND CDs"!!!
the thing i'm gonna miss most about buying records is coming home to an ever growing minefield... the more you start to get it under control, the more you start to add to it and it's a never ending cycle

Random ramblings time.....
TBH I have my cdjs.....I also have a 100Mbps broadband connection, but im still buying more vinyl than ever. Just placed an order for 5 double/triple Lps a couple of mins ago actually.
I find beatport annoying with their selection. Im very eclectic- and hop genres a lot to mix and match. They 99% of the time dont have what im after. yet i can go online or to record stores and have the 12" on my doorstep within 24 hours.
Same with other sites. As much as a bonus 'free' downloadable cd sticker/sleeve moistens my pants, its still boring.
Cost is not so important. I dont and never have based my enjoyment of something on its cost.
The satisfaction of downloading a track vs biying a record is comparable to having a wank vs having sex.....both good and both give satisfaction, but one leaves you feeling kind of empty and perhaps thinking 'is that it?' Thats my personal take on it.
Buying a cd is nice- but downloading/burning one just honestly bores me to shit.I also find i listen to them and they sound....well...a bit lifeless.
Another big thing is I simply cannot be arsed to go through the hassle of transferring stuff from vinyl to cd. Bores me like watching paint evolve and is so time consuming. Time that could be used productively.
I guess its the collector in me showing through- im more than a dj. Truth be told, 99% of the records i buy i never play out- they are bought for my enjoyment and collectability. Thats something digital can never replace.
I just like the physical product, the artwork and the hands on feel.
Plus- in the event of nuclear armageddon, I will still be able to play my vinyl......even on an old wind up gramaphone or similar home made contraption salvaged from the burng ashes of civilization. cd players, pcs and the majority of electrical equipment wont work due to the EMP
I may have radiation poisoning and no hair, but at least I will be able to slip on some LPS for background music. Or dj at the radioactive mutants rave.
