Unless I am mistaken, it's not a quesiton of what 'really aired': the entire plot of Sara going to and then getting broken out of prison is the story of how Prison Break ends. It is the one and only plot constructed by the writers. I assume that scheduling conflicts prevented it from being aired in N.America but that doesn't change the specifics of the storyline.
This reminds me of The Sopranos: having watched every single episode I remember being disappointed with the fact that Tony kills Christopher b/c based on the former's character development I believe the act is something that Tony would never carry out. The murder is, however, exactly how the show approached its ending and, so, we must accept it.
I definitely agree, though, that there was tons of cheese in the final episode of PB.
