Once upon a time, if you compared for instance car manufactured in one part of the world, with a cars manufactured in another, you might find quite a difference in quality & features. Based on this difference, certain companies and countries earned reputations for their car manufacturing. Since the old days, car manufacturers the world over have put much effort into designing and building great value and quality cars, such that you can no longer go by where the car is manufactured, or go solely by a companies reputaion as an indication of what sort of value or quality it will be. Fortunately, the car buying public of the world have come to realise this and now make informed choices without believing whatever outdated generalisations are impressed upon them. This is yet to happen with those in the market for turntables. (this is not at all intended as insulting, rather it is an observation) .

Seriously?!? Where do you want me to start? Instead of answering that, I'll honestly recommend you check out the list of features (that it is debatebly unforgivable that technics still have not included as standard!!), then go pick one of the buggers up and then try and tell me their build quality is crappy!

True, but irrelevant. I jumped on Matty's 150's for the first time ever and just slid mixes in effortlessly- 0 adjustment time. Some people claim that it takes them one or two mixes to have re-calibrated themselves. So um...

If you're likely to find yourself in a club, then this is so unlikely to be an issue.

If anything, the 4.5 kg p/cm torque (compared to 1.5 on the techs), is one of a long list of features which you would find would make your life much easier.

True again, there are many non-technics tables which are not where it's at, but I encourage you not to place stanton 120's or 150's into that category, at least without properly doing your research

lol can of worms this one, whoever said technics turntables never break never worked in a DJ shop.

you can email me (matt at vinylwarning dot com dot au) or marsh (marsh at ...) with any questions you have on decks. We've got the entire range of Technics, Stanton and Numark turntables in our shop, and if you're in Melbourne you're welcome to come by and have a mix - we've got a set of STR8150s set up in the shop with a Xone 92, and we can plug in any other deck you'd like for comparison so you can try em and decide for yourself.

FWIW ST150s are currently outselling Technics turntables (all models) by about ten to one for us.

suppose i should change my avatar seeing as how i don't have 1200s any more...

true this. i've had heaps of DJs come over, jump straight on my 150s, and mix flawlessly from their first record. similarly, when i play at a club i'm on 1200s, and i find zero adjustment time from home to club and back again.

this is probably a much bigger discussion than needs to be had in this thread, and some people are unlikely to have their minds changed. it's probably worth considering, though, that Marsh and I were both singing the exact same 'its gotta be technics' song being sung in this thread... until we actually spent some quality time with the 150s.

yeah, and you 2 know *infinitely* more about this shit than yours truly (tho i do recall marshall once telling me the djx700s were good ), but i didnt go straight to Win 98 or XP or jump straight onto nvidia or ATI simply coz i like something expensive to have stood the test of time before i drop cash on uprading.
and tbh im not good enough (and never likely to be!) to need a table that does anything but spin round and not break which my 1200s do fabulously

heh come on man, they're $379 new for a four channel mixer with effects and kills. $379 barely buys you one channel of a DJM300, half a channel (down to the mid eq) on a DJM600, or the first four pages of the Xone 92 manual.

Great to meet you too Mr Trance Nutter, always nice to put a name to a face and talk tunes and gear.
