I watched the game, and didn't see much of substance from argentina. yes they should have brought messi on and shouldn't have taken riquelme off but they are the 'what ifs' that will always be there in football. based on what actually happenned, argentina are all show and little end product (except against an extremely poor serbia side)

Gutted for england, losing on penalties is always devastating and never gets any easier! i really can't tell whether the rooney 'stamp' was intentional or not but the ref thought it was so off he went, fair enough. at the end of the day we didn't do enough to win the match and never had any attacking creativity in the whole tournament. crouch should have played from the start for a blatantly out of form and low on confidence lampard. rooney is wasted up front on his own.

And anyone who still thinks owen hargreaves is crap has absolutely no understanding of the game! no use even arguing with people like that.

he is a great captain for liverpool but he has never done much in an england shirt. the captaincy could bring the best out of him though, it would be good to see him replicate his club form finally.

Sven should have bought theo wallcot on in the last 10 mins, inject the game with some pace, scare the pork n cheese defence with his pace

the kid runs the 100m in 10.8 sec
thats farkin quick

McLaren will do a much better job with england, he knows the players backwards, and he knows how england should play

Maclaren will get england to play long balls, just like he does with Middlesborough. They are destined for more failures. Hargreaves was shite, is fucken shite and always will be shite. One decent game dont change that. Carrick is much more effective in the role.

100% agree on Walcott, as i said every 4 years teh mickey mouse camp that is England rolls along and this year was no different...If you ask me the english fans are pretty patient with their national team!

Only one captain for england and thats John Terry, the guy bleeds for the shirt like no one else!

Agreed

John Terry is a monster, and when they are tossing the coin, u want someoen to represent ur team, that is going to stare the other captaion in the eyes, getting him ready for battle, not ppretty boy beckham who kisses the opposing captains half the time.

Did you see the England - Sweden game? Or the England - Ecuador game? Hargreaves has been one of only three England players who actually played to anything like their potential in this tournament and ran his socks off with the kind of passion that shows lampard up to be the lazy, believing his own hype nancy boy he really is.

I take it you have never seen him play for Bayern Munich either? Where on the few occasions I have he has actually upstaged Ballack in much the same way he did to Lampard and Gerrard against Portugal. But yeah, he's shit and always will be, very strong argument.

Carrick is a completely different kind of player, can't tackle and is much slower. Don't get me wrong I like carrick and would have liked to see him in for lampard who has struggled, but not in the hargreaves role which hargreaves has well and truly made his own now.

Comparing hargreaves to Ballack now, Ive heard it all!

The end of the story is you want players that are going to win you a world cup, and hargreaves isnt one of them. You want some evidence (2002 world cup, 2006 world cup). Evidence enough.

I said he has upstaged ballack, i wasn't comparing him to ballack.

You're argument makes no sense, what do you mean "2002 world cup, 2006 world cup evidence enough"?

Hargreaves was man of the match in Englands opening world cup game 4 years ago and then got injured in the second game. This time he was man of the match in 2 of the 5 games and was the only guy who looked really up for it when it mattered most.

Have your opinion but at least make an argument that makes sense.

Lampard can win you a game with one kick, same as gerrard... Unfortunately Hargreaves cant... The only thing hargreaves bought was freshness. Unlike most players in england he hasnt played in excess of 100-120 games of football in 24 months. Lampard was a bees dick away from having a top world cup (got into great goal scoring positions just couldnt tuck it away). If hes chances went in the back of the net, the english wouuld be ass raping him as we speak...My point is hargreaves brings nothing to the squad. Its unfortunate Ledley King wasnt in the world Cup, we wouldnt even have heard of Hargreaves!
