Actually, it's much more complicated than this: It's a "us vs them" issue, in which they see the US as a holier-than-thou domineering power that wants to push values unto us that are alien to our culture and that Americans themselves can't follow. I can't say I ever really liked Bin Laden but I always root for the underdog. Maybe I've seen to many Hollywood movies. His original motivations were stop the western powers from supporting middle eastern dictatorships. Obviously his means to an end weren't justified.
