I have to pay $1,700 per year with driving school discount to be 3rd driver on a 2003 corolla. while that is extremely expensive, that is nothing in comparisson to the cost of what happens if i get into an accident.
if i get into ONE accident and it's my fault my parent's premium goes from $3000 a year (with me) to $6800 / year without taxes for SIX YEARS. not only that, in case you haven't heard car insurance will be rising in the near future in ALL insurance companies by 20-40%. so i worked it out and if i get into one accident i will be paying about $50K to drive for 6 years with one accident.
how do they honestly expect people from the ages of 16-23 to drive? i don't know about you but i don't know any 16 year old who can afford that. maybe a 23 year old but if he/she is going to university it is not going to be fun times.
all i know is that if they don't do something about this and soon, it's just going to be getting worse and worse until driving turns from a necissity to a luxury. When this happens the amount of people who drive are going to plummet extrodinarily and this will cut so many jobs. it's not like there isn't a shortage of jobs as there is. In Ontario, the main source of income is automobile related. can you just imagine what will happen?
and yes i have looked around for other insurance companies but it may get a bit cheaper than this but not by much..
who knows, maybe this kid who is pissed off that he can't get his license is on to something..
Fixed for you...pulling a thread from before your colour. Old School.
What did you have against capital letters back then?

i was shocked when i moved from quebec to ontario 8 years ago. When I was 17, my premiums in quebec were $400/yr ...when I moved, i checked the premiums here and the lowest i could get then was $2500/yr.
At 24, I pay ~ $1500/yr...which still almost 4 times what I was paying at 17....
The gov. needs to subsided insurance like quebec does. I think saskatchewan does the same too.
