I think that progressive is a "sub-genre"...

i mean if it is not...then HARD would also have to be it's own genre..since there is hard-trance, hard-techno, hard-house, hardcore, hardstyle etc etc...

So if hard is not its own genre then why should prog?...being there are MORE parts to the sub-genre HARD then prog...

Just doeant make sense to me...

But i did like how someone said Prog IS its own genre BUT is not called prog-house or prog-trance..it is ALL prog but sounds housier or trancier...that SORTA makes sense to me..

but i still say Prog is a subgenre of House and Trance...as Hard is...but hey thats me...

PROGRESSIVE is a well established genre ...if you have djs like digweed, sasha, sander, jimmy, etc calling it a genre on its own and calling it progressive, then hmmm whos right you or them i would more likely listen and take in from someoen who is one of the founders of the progressive movement.no offense to you just i dont think u realy understand prog

for example ... some of you labels tracks like junkie xl prog trance and then label tracks like Sultan stuff prog house...so if djs like digweed, sasha, etc play both in the same set i mean cant be much fuckin difference yeah some is trancy some is more deeper some is tribal but its all progressive .... you guys seriously make me laugh and thats why i dont know why i try to explain the essense of prog music and what it really is and people just dont understand and grasp the concept ...

Kids keep listening to your trance and stop filling your lives trying to figure out whats what or what is called what. Because the die hard prog fans know what its called and know what its refered to plain and simple.

Actually, I dont really listen to anything else at the moment besides prog and I dont entirely disagree with you either (nor do I slag off other genres). I know everyone (including the DJs you've mentioned a hundred times) calls the genre progressive, but I don't think thats entirely correct. Its just the easiest way to call it that everyone has followed doing.

what ever way you look at it, there is no wrong and right answer. and just because you have your own views doesn't make you the elite progressive whore that you think you are.

ps. try to get your head out of your own asshole

Progressive is really just a notion of the music moving forward. So there is always something new and fresh instead of the same old cookie cutter or formulaic sound.

Progressive trance = something on the trancier side of Progressive
Progressive house = something on the housier side of Progressive

Prog Trance:
Leama - Requiem for a Dream
Way Out West - Activity
Cass - Mind Rewind

Prog House:
Nu - Any Other Girl (Planet Funk Rmx)
John Creamer & Stephen K - I Wish You Were Here
Minilogue - Deeper Emotions

Yes, progressive trance rules. I've been spinning it for a while. My foavrites would have to be:
1.) Gradient - DDTB
2.) Joshua Ryan - Fury
3.) DJ Icey - Searching (Joshua Ryan remix)
4.) Dan Efex - The Prayr

I must say Leama & Moor are the hottest prog trance group at the moment, hands down.

Others include Human Movement, Voyager, Natious, Blackwatch, Maurice & Noble.

Atlas - compass Error (Tarentella & Redanka Remix) was the tune of 2002. Absolutely fab prog trance there.

From my understanding progressive is merely a subgenre of other genres not a genre in itself as you suggest. the genre following the word "progressive" indicates which it has borrowed the most sound or "flavor" from. People tend to think progressive means "the song progresses" but I contend it merely means that you can't use one encompassing definition for it. It changes from via at *least* two axioms. The producer producing it's own "interpretation" of progressive and current trends in production of such tracks (i.e. time).

There are distinct differences. If you don't want to bother with them, that's fine. But don't go forcing others to abandon their efforts to describe music to a finer degree. It happens in every fucking genre thread that pops up.

^^ one of the best posts i've read in a while.
