| quote: | | marco v is a great dj, one of the few trancers i respect. but he is not as diverse as tiesto. he falls more on the harder edge. i don't expect to here a chillout ISOS kind of mix from Marco. Tiesto has that versatility which makes him admirable. |
YaleTrance, as much as I respect your musical knowledge, I'd have to
say that I disagree with you. As a producer, Tiesto may have a little edge because of his wide range of styles in his songs, but as a DJ, Marco V is one of the few who is seriously underrated, and a has a much more trademark sound than Tiesto. To me, Tiesto's sets that are a little more techy sound like half assed Marco V sets...all the techno and tech elements, about half the energy and the drive.
As for your point on flexibility of styles, I agree to some point...as a DJ, you can only do so much before you tire yourself out, and while Magik and ISOS were awesome series, they seemed to dwindle within each other's intent of style by Magik 7 and ISOS3...popular songs, one direction. To tell you the truth, I thougt ISOS3 was weak, and Nyana was a waste of time. But again, it's music, so it's relative.
No doubt, Tiesto is awesome, and I have much love for him, but I never thought he was, and now, is as unique as Marco or PvD.

I wasn't dissing Marco, and i agree that he's underrated. All I'm saying is that he doesn't have the wide range of variety that Tiesto has in set construction or production. Whether one has more of a trademark than the other is another issue. I personally like Tiesto better just because his selection of music appeals more to my taste (not as hard as Marco V). When I went to a Marco V solo in Amsterdam earlier this year I frankly got tired after a while of so much hardness, but he was still great behind the decks. Just not my style. For me, ISOS3 and Nyana are amazing. But hey, I'm just a blind Tiesto worshipper so don't mind it.....
