OK...I must admit...I thought I would be laughing my ass off at all the dumb kiddies being stupid like I was at Monster Massive....but TAO was great for the most part (read on to see what "for the most part). Maybe it was me being up front the whole night away from the piles (if there were any, not sure)...and I wasn't asked ONCE if I was rolling (note, I was asked at least 15-20 times at Monster Massive).
The vibe was awesome. The party was great.
Anyhow, I am glad I went...especially with teh girl....we had a kick ass night.
John '00' Fleming
As far as J00F goes, HE DID PLAY. Again, he did play...although only for an hour. He played from 10pm - 11pm. I was sure I saw him up there spinning for a bit, and I just checked with a contact at Go Ventures to make sure I wasn't seeing things. And it was confirmed to me...he did play. I dunno why he didn't play from 9pm - 10pm, too, but it could have been a number of things from flight delays, cancelled flights, etc...I will work on finding out exactly why, but it's not too important to me.
As for as GV screwing anyone, J00F was confirmed for the timeslot 9pm-11pm. After some confusion with J00F's personal gig list saying he was playing in Turkey on NYE, confirmation was received by someone around here from J00F's manager....stating that his Turkey gig was cancelled because of security issues or something and confirmed he was playing in LA and stuff.
Judge Jules
With Judge Jules...I gotta say, he blew me away! I've seen him play some nasty chunks in the past, but jeeezzzuuusss he was blazing. He had the crowd going. The two hours he played is all a blur to me....well, I mean..I remember everything, but was just far too into it to remember any exact tracks. Hehhe...wasteedd (note: DRUNK)...
Fergie
Then Fergie came on and just blew us away all to hell. Was praying he'd play some kickass techno, and he did. Was a tad worried he'd play hard house since he played HH here in SF just last month, but considering it was a massive and JJ was playing some pretty heavy stuff, HH would have put everyone to sleep...and I'm sure Fergie knew that. When Fergie came on, I was like, "WTF, that's not him!!!! Fergie doesn't have hair!" ... then I was reminded by a friend at Go Ventures that ... well ... he grew some. Heheh, I was worried while on the floor for a bit.
Reza
For those that left when Reza came on, he actually was boring. To go from the fast techno that Fergie was playing to the slower stuff Reza was playing (and not nearly the same great track selection), we totally lost the vibe ... and went to the other room....just to find that the music in there was basically pure SF House and then made our way back to Reza. From there, the sound system fucked up and all sound was lost. We just decided to go. We really wanted to stay, but the vibe was just killed. No chance of getting it back. Outta there.
Heard they got the sound going again just for it to cut out again later on.
Reza was a great closer for Monster Massive since the DJ before him there, Benny Benassi(the dude who made the stupid ass track "Satisfaction"), was sucking ass.....but for TAO, he was just *yawwwwnnn* ... I know it's his show, but keeping the vibe is much more important than him....should have sucked it up and booked someone kickin to close it out.
The Go Ventures peeps are a bunch of cool people. Totally down to earth and just out there to have a great time. Had dinner with a few of them the following day and heard some great stories.
