can i pleaseeeeeeeee ask why you people talk shit and say a DJ reads a crowd? DJ's play what they personally like, and punters who like what the DJ's like (ie they can find out what a DJ likes by the trend he usually plays or the music he produces) all enjoy the atmosphere too.. taking nothing away from it.. since i know that armin likes trance, produces trance, and plays trance im going to go watch him.. now im gonna tell you that if 100% of qbh who rocked up to see armin were dressed in gangster clothing holding up pistols in the air, armin wouldnt start playing gangster rap.. read a crowd? MY ASS!

The thing is man 99.999% of DJ's are not Armin or Tiesto, they dont have the following and so peoPLe do not know what to expect. Tiesto is a great DJ because he reads the crowd so well..he PLays his style which at times is very different to anything out there but manages to keep the crowd rocking because he reads the crowd and can see when he can PLay something new and it will rock. To me I dont see how Armin reads the crowd because he just PLays the same big uPLifter track after track (but thats just me)...

but for all us guys who are not superstarz (and wannabe) we have to read the crowd..know when to drop the biggies..know when we can go a little deeper etc etc...and produce

If you dont PLay to the crowd..they will know and then they get lost.
BUT..PLay to the crowd..but remember you control the crowd, they dont control you.

Tiesto does sound different from years ago, but I'm not losing faith in him just yet.
I bought my tickets, so I hope he plays some nice melodic stuff this Wednesday.
I'm sure I won't be the only one who'll be disappointed if he doesn't.

If he does disappoint, I hope the colourful eye candy in the sky will make up for the night. I've missed the last 4 New year's eve fireworks, because I've always been partying indoors.

Hmmm maybe I should just ingest enough chemicals so that I won't be too concerned about what's coming out of the speakers. The eye candy in the sky will look more captivating too. I think a lot of people will be thinking that way on the night!

DaveBegic.....you are basically saying that most of the deejays booked that people pay their hard-earned cash to see could be replaced by a jukebox to save thousands upon thousands of dollars?

I have these albums...i've listened to em...yeah they're good - but when I saw him here this year he just turned me off a bit the way he got up there and kinda exuded this "I am God so u must love me" air...he struck me as a bit of an arrogant tool so, for me, it just wasn't as nice an atmosphere as tiesto created....that's all i meant

sticks & stones...

given up trying to reason with u

i am thinking of writing in to Dj mag though, maybe they can set up a new reviews section for you... "half assed techno" so that the column currently used for "trance" can only contain your pure reflection of the very varied genre.

heck, they could even rename that "We Love Armin" by Escee" section???

Tiesto answered this exact question on the interview on his site.

It was something like this

"why do we not hear the sounds of 98/99 etc..?"

"Well back then i was playing and part of the trance genre which was euro trance, shasha, oakey etc.. were playing trance but a different style of trance. They moved on from trance and things have changed since then, euro trance isnt around as much. Now i play trance not just euro trance, trance is such a broad genre and i try to incorporate trance as whole into one set hence why i play differently."

OK so thats not word for word, far from it, but it was something like that lol.

its all down to personal taste, and people need to respect that and not get so defensive. Some may like tiestos new style, some might not. But i dont think anyone on here is going to be swung by someone elses opinion, as we all seem to have very strong opinions on the topic.

I agree with escee, i didnt like his inercity set, but he has done a lot of sets this year that I have loved. So im gonna be at NYD front and center (and i have just paid for a tiesto tshirt, so i need somewhere to wear it)

The funny thing is, that most of the people that live in aus that have posted an opinion on here, whether they like his 'new style' or not, will all be at his gig no matter what!

humble opinion? being humble includes a certain sense of understanding and unpretentiousness.

to dismiss someone's opinion as "dumb" is not humble.
