Errr....Final Scratch is for DJs with two decks and a mixer anyway...so either way they're gonna be shellin out a lotta cash. I think i might post a thread in teh DJ Forum asking the question of 'Do you have a laptop capable of running Final Scratch'. Yea i usually dont bother seeing as though it turns into arguements like this, but big DJs playing promos off CDr really doesn't bother me, as they usually use a mix of the two mediums (vinyl n cds). Plus they're all credible to the promos (they dont have to download em, they get given em :rolleyes, And I doubt any of my heros use all CDs apart from maybe Sasha... But LTJ Bukem, DJ Shadow, David Morales, Nick Warren use a mix of the two which i find just lovely?

That doesn't change with Final Scratch, you still need those media to get the AIFF files over to your Powerbook.

If they are all credible to the promos, then what's the big deal? PvD has stated many times that he thinks mp3s are stealing and sound crap, so what exactly is your argument?

2. Technology advances,
3. Prices drop,
4. DJs every (big small) start gettin final scratch cos its soo much easier than carrying around fuckloads of vinyl
5. DJs now dont buy vinyl, cos its final scratch man!! Play AIFF OR MP3!! yay. Yes maybe they buy the tracks from the labels digitally..but that aint vinyl.
6. vinyl culture lost. Djs rockin up to sets with a laptop n two fantastic records (guess which label they're on?)

...mighta skipped a few steps between 5 n 6 cos im lazy..but thats the arguement.

so do people like PvD because of the music he plays or the medium he plays it on?

"Oh maaaaan" right back at ya. Point 5 is flawed due to the fact that mp3s sound shite live and cos CD or vinyl is needed to actually get an AIFF file to play. Point 6, Final Scratch is a computer program. What happens if the program crashes mid set when the intensity has soared and the crowd is mad for it? Instant vibe death. That's the main reason why many DJs won't welcome Final Scratch with open arms, and also why vinyl isn't going to die any time soon, along with the fact that Final Scratch is expensive due to the required purchase of a) the program (which in turn will be upgraded again and again, hence costing even more) b) special cartridges c) a Powerbook d) specially designed Final Scratch-vinyls which must be purchased again and again because of the wear they suffer. If you then add Point 3 to the mix, vinyl sure as hell won't die.

Final Scratch isn't a replacement for the media we use for music currently, but rather technology's way of making the DJ life easier.

Look they invented Audio CDs which are smaller/cheaper and you get 74 min on one CD. Did this destroy the vinyl culture?? NO! Why should Final Scratch destroy it..

Vinyl will never die as long theyre people on this planet who still love the vinyl feeling..

only thing bout zebiela using cd's is he can manipulate the track before hand so they all have the same bpm, thus avvoiding the minute or so spent during tracks leaving more time to fuck about like he does...

here we go again.

in 10 years TAs will be moaning and leaving the electronic dance music scene cause no-one uses vinyl. it's kinda sad in a way, but it is the way things progress. keep an open mind people. finalscratch, cdj's and vinyl emulators will keep on developing, while the real thing is becoming obsolote for EDM, as it has become for the mainstream scene. maybe it will become easier to spin digitally, but it will be a lot more versatile. just imagine all the possibilities.

this is like any other evolution in humanity....ur gonna have ur people who can adapt with times and use it to thier advantage like any other millionaire, billionaire....and then ur gonna have those old fashioned people who keep sayin "if it works...y change?" The people who grip on so much and eventually get left behind and drag others down with em...like i said in one thread...if vinyl's are being threatened to extinction...its gonna one hell of a long grueling battle to the death. its gonan take more than final scratch and pvd to kill it.

oh well...personally...if there is a garuntee on final scratch never crashing...i might use it...imma still gonna use vinyl till then though...maybe one day i'll have 4 tables, 2 cddj's, computers and high tek digital whore's on my nuts while i do my thing too.
