So true great thread.

I think now and then I dropped back a couple of levels then go back up. Heh mood swings I guess.

1 & 2 <- Oh I got confused with quality and crap. Boy oh boy thinking Rank 1 & Scooter were on the same level.

3 <- took ages to get to this level. I still had the my feeling for the cheese sounds, and thinking it was real elite stuff.

4 <- Yeah I recall this. Fighting with my siblings and blah blah. "No singing, your music is bullshit!" Me: "You can stick your eurodance/pop up your arse"

5 <- I can easily recall this.

6a < never said another EDM genre is better than trance. But I do feel trance is in decline.

6b <- the inevitable happened...and I ended up spending almost $2K.

7 <- I'm back at square one where I start appreciating genres outside of EDM, and that is right. Music is for my emotions.

Oh the irony....

What's the point of such thread?
People always tend to catagorizing music as well as themselves. How productive.

BTW, I'm so sorry I've never been in any of the above stages as you stated, unfortunately.

Stage 7 for me... via 6.b never hit 6.a and i still like tiesto because he got me into trance with ISOS2. I like more then trance but trance gives me the best feeling and ability to express throughout the set... I see it like writing a story book with music. Doesn’t get much better then that!

Trance is dead...

Three months of pointless mp3 whoring and the first to go on repeat in my winamp is aurora borealis - milky way (which I have already countless versions of..except for the original which I recently acquired)

I am not a DJ and I dont see any point to prog either. So I'll take 6c where I am barely hanging on to trance without a clue as to what I will be listening to in a year

Although ppl cannot be categorized, this is a good attempt cos it plugs the usual exits.

Beginning to DJ and building tracklists can really give you a new appreciation for music (ie. Trance). Some songs I didn't care too much about before, I find myself wanting to play them everytime in my sets and enjoy them more that way.

Trance isn't dead, it is different than it was, those incredibly epic and uplifting tunes are fewer in number, but trance itself is evolving, uplifting and progressive. Producers like Gabriel & Dresden, James Holden, Nathan Fake, Leama and Moor, Luke Chable, Grayarea, and more, are all pushing forward the innovation envelope on progressive...

While Tiesto I think is still on top of his game esp. with his new CD coming out, Ferry's moving onto some exciting electro/tech sounds, Armin seems to be a jack of all trades and music genres (hopefully he starts making some more productions), Push, Solar Stone, Airwave... these guys are all doing well and releasing exciting tunes. And some newer artists like Re:Locate, Phynn, Fictivision, C-Quence, Mesh, Filo & Peri, RonskiSpeed, Subsphere... how is trance dead or how is it worse? It's a matter of evolving along with music and not rotting in one time period.

Agreed. Couldn't have put it better myself.

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening, terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness; chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself. - Timothy Leary
