i understand.

but, at bal en blanc, the setting was perfect for PVD to sign authographs, chat, shake hands with fans AFTER his set.

He just diapeared after the set... come on. thats not cool!

When I'm payin $30+ to hear ONE DJ, I think it's important for them to be interactive.

Or, spin such a fantastic, complex set that they didn't have a second to look up and smile.

At McDonald's, smiles are free. :|

When I pay $100 I expect the DJ not sneak out the back when the fog machine fills the place at the end of his set.

Wouldn't it be funny if he closed with xpress2's "smoke machine"..

I like meeting DJs, I like shaking their hands and I like getting my records signed - but I am hardly a sycophant (that is a pretty harsh choice of words there).

I just ask for a little respect for the fans. PvD would be sweeping floors if it wasn't for the people who bought his records or paid to see him spin. A little gratitude goes a long way.

I think it comes down to a fine line of wanting to get closer to our favourite international DJs and hearing them spin a great set. For me, I need to hear them spin a fantastic set and live up to the hype. All the smiles, pictures, signing comes second. With guys like Armin, Ferry and Piet (Rank 1) you get the whole package. An amazing night of good music and they make themselves available to their fans. I think that is the sign of a great DJ. So that being said, I think all DJs on that level need to at least make the effort to get involved just a little with the crowd. True, they don't need to go jump into the crowd or anything but give the fans that come out to support you something back to let them know you care.

'Nuff said - here's hoping PVD brings his A game on the 24th. Last time was amazing...I expect no less.

I don't find this aversion to fame surprising. By taking into account where and when he grew up, I can understand his lack of enthusiasm for embracing "stardom". All that hoopla just isn't his style....he simply wants to touch people by playing music.

I'll share a story...I sent an email a couple years ago to buy a shirt on Paul's website. I indicated my appreciation for his music and how I would like the shirt signed if possible. Not only was the shirt signed, but I received a bunch of free Vandit merchandise as well. As you can see, from personal experience, I believe he truly appreciates his fans. Maybe he doesn't stick around to be mobbed, but please don't take that as a lack of gratitude, but merely his way of operating.

I look forward to making the trip to Toronto in June and expect a duplicate performance of his October set.

^^^^^^^ So true. Just because he doesn't smile doesn't mean he's not interested or isn't caring about his fans. 2nd time I saw him in 01 he smirked and waved at the crowd ONCE during the entire set. The set though was probably THE best one I've heard period. (His set in Oct was also VERY VERY good).

personally, i DON'T like the djs that are in my face with smiles and thumbs up signs. it's all show, it's fake. "hi, i'm the best dj and you all love me!"

i prefer paul's style. it's a well known fact he is shy and quiet. he doesn't interact with the crowd much, but the few times he looks up and smiles, or gives a thumbs up sign means sooo much more than someone who is doing it ALL THE TIME.

JUNE 24. i'm excited he's back in toronto so soon!
