I can't imagine that his longer sets are booring ?!?

2 months ago i went to godskitchen for Armin's 9h set.
I was there from the verry beginning till the end and I can tell you I've been dancing all night long!
I prefer Armin to do longer sets, that are the best parties, because you'll hear some classics (for me thats great).

But thats just my opinion ...

Here's an idea: don't listen to ASOT, don't download any more sets, don't download any more tracks and then go see him or any other DJ......you guys seem to forget that a DJ plays for the people in the club, not all the 1337 mp3 kiddies and ASOT nerds who have heard every set that he does and every new track a thousand times.

I seem to remember exactly the same arguments last year about how PVD kept playing the same sets over and over again. DJs play for the people in the club, not the people on the internet.

I think this might apply to some people who criticize Armin, but probably not most. I haven't listened to A State of Trance regularly since the end of 2002. Every couple months I'll tune in to see if there's been any change in the mindnumbing Dutch trance assault, but it has sadly been the same every time I've revisited the show.

Similarly, I don't listen regularly to his livesets, but I give them a chance every so often, as did with his recent Essential Mix. They, too, have remained a relatively flat landscape of weak epic material with no overarching set structure to be heard. Starting with a couple tracks of melodic "McProg" and slopping on Phantom Manor inbetween anthems doesn't count as set variation. Nor does it count as flow.

The endless mega-synth trance that Armin peddles reminds me of some cheap narcotic; every week or two people have to get their fix of uplifting melodies, because their novelty wears off fast. The typical A State of Trance production gets forgotten in a couple weeks, sometimes less. And the trend in both lifespan and quality is down. Armin and his associates are working on borrowed time; if they don't work to diversify their sound and improve quality over quantity, it's all going to come crashing down eventually.

Also, to comment on something else you said, the complaints against Paul van Dyk that spanned much of last year are different than the ones against Armin. Paul played good tracks and good sets; it's just that he changed out his playlist at a snail's pace. This may have retained the quality of his sets, but Vandit fans who follow his work quickly tired of the repeats, despite their production value.

That's not so with Armin. He changes his tracklist regularly, but he has to because nothing he plays has a lifespan longer than that. The majority of tracks he promotes are thin and empty anthems that have been done a hundred times before, with nothing more than faux-emtional value.

Complaints against Paul regarded his slow tracklist turnover. Complaints against Armin regard the quality of his set material and construction themselves.

Armin must "save" trance, must be super-creative and is the devil of trance music that must be fighten by everyone

People seem to forget dj's are humans, not robots with supernatural powers that can bring music to a completely new level every day. Yeah, he's overrated, of course he is, all trance dj's are, don't tell me people that keep a crowd happy by playing a bunch of anthems and beatmatching them together should be praised as some sort of gods - even though it's hard to be travelling all the time and such. But why don't we all shut the fuck up and let the guy do whatever he's doing and live his life.

And argh, i had promised myself i'd stay out of these non-sense flame threads, but it's too strong of a temptation

I wanted to leave after 2-3 hours. Imo armin can not hold energy for 5 hours with the style he plays, because all he does ie play , he doesnt vary his sets, he may drop a single house track, or a single prog track, then play of hard track like mark norman. I love 8 hour sets, just not from armin.

This reminds me of another dj that used to/still does only play 2-3 hour sets...hrm who could that be.

5 hour sets in nyc? when? i doubt it.....not on no album tours.....3max for armin on those.....keep DL those sets kid

maybe if everyone didn't leech all his sets and ASOT you'd think he has more variation

and when a dj plays for a live crowd i'm sure the crowd wants to hear some of his signature tunes and sounds, that's obviously why they went to see him...

ppl (in general) need to stop whining (not directed towards ziddy)
