you are absolutely right there Jules..

but not everything is about what the clubbing masses know.

if people enjoy a tune.. the educated ones will find out what the name of that tune is...

and whilst that may be the minority, the only way the EDM scene will take steps forward is for quality producers (TA's: Jace and Davebegic [apologies for other TA producers i dont know about]) like these guys to keep pluggin away, and when they get signed they will get more widely known, and this will help the whole scene to progress.

however, this isnt taking away from the dj's who dont produce either, however they should support their fellow town producers by playing there tunes..

[disclaimer: these are purely my opinions]

thanks for the props soups, and while jules puts forth a valid statement regarding dj's who dj and dont produce who have definately got their world wide acclaim.. all those men have built something bigger than we could dream of, not only that jules but nowadays theres about 50,000 more djs than there was in those days, so for those afformentioned non-producing dj's to stick out, it wasnt as hard as it is now.

its time to wake up and smell the cheese i guess.. dj's are just not going to get the kind of attention they used to, because for quite some time now everybody's taken the hobby on, making it all too common to be so special.

I also support the notion of different promoters respecting and supporting each other, rather than competing. This allows the scene to strengthen and grow, which in return is beneficial for all promoters in the scene.

I think something that has to be considered is that being a good dj doesn't mean they'll be a good producer and vice versa.
To many in the scene are highly regarded as both when they are really only good at one!

The following comment i'm sure will cop some unhappy regards but i'll say it anyway........Paul van Dyk is NOT an exceptional dj.

There, I said it. lets face facts, he is a fantastic producer and is to be respected for what he has done for trance but if u look at his status in the clubbing world it is all due to his producing. Having access to some pretty awesome tracks and playing them one after the other in my mind does not deserve the status he has.I have seen him play and heard many of his live sets and I am yet to hear a set where I went " man that guy is one of the best dj's I have ever heard or even deserving of his ranking."

I believe producers deserve alot more acclaim than dj's but we shouldn't assume success in one will instantly improve the other.

Feel free to respond with "what??! Paul rocks!" comments........hehe

Lol, I'd call him pretty average. Look @ Tiesto or Armin, both are much more inovative producers, not recycling the same sample/s for about 2 years, before updating is library. The production of his latest album is woeful.

Djing he's not bad tho :P

thanks for the shout Hyperdimention and Chookie!

yeah we need to get behind our home grown producers.. so that we can cultivate our Armin's, Teisto's and Paul's.. and then maybe the trance scene in Australia will really take off.

This is a very interesting thread.. lots of opinion. Pitty I'm not old enough or wise enough to say something intelligent on the matter.

But keep it going. (oh. btw, I don't think van Dyk is all that exceptional, I could name quite a few that (I think) are much better)
