I heard this few days after its release and although it takes absolute skill to play it live , I wasn't impressed by the music. The mix for me was a hybrid of the 80's / 90's sounds and space age samples with modern technology. There's nothing wrong with that but unfortunately this isn't a new concept. In the early 80s the Invinsibl Skratch Piklz used the same principles as JZ but used turntables instead of modern day equipment (CD players , FX units etc) and their mixes were technically superb. From a methodological point of veiw, JZ's style (ALiVe) branches from turtablism - Analogue vs Digital.

Still, it takes incredible skill to pull something off like that and for that JZ must be respected.

it's exactly the fact that he uses modern equipment that makes it so unique. granted, people have used the same principles zabi does for decades, but zabi builds on those by integrating the latest equipment and all their new features such as hot cues and reloops on the cdjs. his skill with the effects unit is also unmatched. while some djs use it to compliment their sets, the efx-500 becomes the showcase of zabi's set, allowing him to create those signature scratch sounds he's so known for now. no other dj does this.

zabiela, in my opinion, is at the forefront of the digital revolution in djing. as a matter of fact, he's even working with pioneer to develop new equipment. to simply call it a new branch in analogue vs. digital is belittling his achievements. analogue is dead, long live zabiela!

Outside of EDM there are 100s of DJs that do exactly what JZ does. Which is why modern equipment makes him different but not unique.

That's being pedantic. Is there any point in this ? I hate to say this but at the end of the day this is a matter of opinion. Some people just never understand.

*yawn* more academic elitism. it's like listening to yale trance praise tiesto for the uniqueness his trainwrecks bring to his sets.

as far as i know, there is no dj who takes our genre of music and does what zabi does with it. he's a breath of fresh air in the edm scene which, sadly, is dominated by piss poor, cookie cutter, euphoric trance these days. that is my opinion and i will stand by it!
