a point I think dave is trying to make is that programs such as ableton live allow us as DJs to move outside the realm of the traditional DJ set - instead of mixing track A into track B (maybe while laying an accapella from Track C over the mix) as a normal DJ set would follow - now we can take the breakdown from Track A, the vocal chorus from Track B, the bassline from Track C, the guitar loop from Track D, a drum sample, some sound effects and concoct a unique track that no one else has ever made right there in front of the crowd - no longer is the focus just on beat mixing and EQ use since the software makes these both a moot point.
I for one think that software such as Ableton Live is awesome - it is another amazing tool you can use to rock the crowd and should be embraced just like the CDJ.
