It's just a bit too obvious to me that Liebing, who is as you will agree undoubtedly not too well known for playing minimal to most people, is releasing a minimal-influenced CD just at the very moment in time that minimal is really getting 'mainstream' attention (as an example, Awakenings Festival had a separate minimal stage this year, last year they had an electro stage, a style which was quite popular back then).

Well... Who the hell knows what the guys wanted. I'm sure they didnt want just another mixcd only from the tracks dj plays normally. And maybe they knew about minimal getting more popular. By the way..i checked the tracklisting of U60311 Compilation Techno Division Vol. 1 (mixed by chris liebing) and that cd also had some minmal tunes on it.

in september 2003 the first tune in Liebing's top10 was Villalobos - Dexter... And i'm quite sure he plays minimal in the beginning of his long sets. In Clubnight set last year 1st hour was "calm stuff" ,second and third were bangin'.

And Liebing isnt the only one who doesnt play only 1 style.. Adam Beyer has been spinning quite much electro this year. And Picotto has also begun diggin' more minimal stuff. He plays hard when there is need to. (like @ timewarp)

Ok. Actually there isn't point in my reply, but you can understand something

Of course I do, and I like DJs being versatile. But still

Whatever, it's not that I'm going to buy it anyway

Occasionally you get a synth riff or some misc. effects tossed at you or the bass will cut off as the hihats keep going sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-sh... and then it's back to Wahhh waaaa waaa weooooooo weoooo weooooo... and onto the next track, which surprisingly (or not) sounds the same

They're pretty much interchangeable, like pairs of blue jeans. Although they won't last you as long.

Here's another gratuitous Waaa waaa waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

basd: Man oh man am I hoping Richie Hawtin releases a 3rd installment in his DE9 series. The first two of those I really enjoyed.

I agree completely. I started out not like d&b jungle for exactly that reason. I thought everything sounded the same. Then I started hanging out with a friend who spins d&b. He was pretty new to spinning, but his track selection was excellent. He has improved now and is, definitely, my favorite dj, in these genres. I like a real chugging, driving drum and bass. Almost progressive, with some dark elements, but not a whole set of dark, distorted sounds.

And please do not come up with the obvious Mauro Picotto and Chris Liebing CDs, that's not deep. Liebing's one is just a hitparade on CD1 and an attempt to jump on the minimal bandwagon (getting more and more popular, at least over here in Western Europe)..

I don't think it's so much dj's jumping on "the minimal bandwagon" I just think that the quality of minimal and electro styled techno is better than that of the stuff that people like ben sims are coming out with at the moment.

I was somewhat expecting a comment from you

You're right in the fact that most of the minimal / electro-influenced techno is of higher quality (especially in Germany, lots of good stuff is being produced).. But then again, I didn't expect Liebing to come out with a CD like this.

I agree again that it's good to see versatile DJs (since seeing Liebing doing the same trick over and over again gets boring, even with the energy he lays into it..).

Oh, and on a side note, don't get me started on Ben Sims I mentioned Marco Bailey and Redhead before, he can be added to that craplist. He even might top it.
