Errr...you didn't tell ME your opinion neither did I ask for it. You posted it. Therefore, you were addressing everyone. In addition, I shall now comment about the seemingly ridiculous statement that you made:

quote:
Yes, but it works for home for me too... This, on the other hand, is a tune that only works live which is hardly a mark of a good track...

I follow up by saying that in my opinion,a good track is a good track. Period. A good track will only a LOT better/excellent/completely mindblowing live, but the chances are slim that a bad track at home will sound better/good live. Even if it does, the improvement will be minimal.
Live sound only re-enforces the very nature of the track be it good or bad.
If a good track live sounds bad at home for you 'sounds' to me like you need better speakers/headphones.

Live nature enchances just about every track to sound good. Many songs that I absolutely hate home have sounded great live. Therefore it is my conclusion that a track isn't really good if it only sounds good live. You don't have to agree but it doesn't mean I'm wrong.

I highly doubt it's my studio monitors' fault either...

I NEVER meant any offense dude . Of course, you're entitled to your own opinion lol thats why i'm me and you're you. I didn't say you were wrong either.
BUT, it just 'sounded' really peculiar to me.
i.e a track sounding bad at home and really great live...
I have never felt that before i.e a track sounding good somewhere and bad elsewhere.
With other music yes, rock for instance...where there are vocals and instruments involved. Such music is also more prone to common problems(feedback, delay, echo etc.) as music is actually being 'created' rather than being mixed.
But when it's just being played off cd/vinyl these variables are minimized.
Ah well, just my thoughts.

It might be just because I'm extremely picky when it comes to choosing tracks at home but when I'm out I don't want to waste the night nitpicking

Also, I tend to listen to tunes more from a technical viewpoint rather than an emotional one because I produce music myself.

i never do that actually.. i guess that's because technically i suck at producing...

but seriously, i never think when i listen to music, i let the music take me where it wants me to take. that's why i love The Timelord so much, that melody does something to me that other tracks in this style rarely do. but from a strictly technical viewpoint it is indeed pretty generic, so i can definitely see why you don't like it.

Yeah, it's a bit of a shame too, it takes some of the fun away from listening to music when you tend to be too analytical...

Really? Nice...
what sort of music do you produce?
Well, in that case I don't really blame you as when one is producing a track he/she HAS to be critical.

Trance (obviously ) and trance influenced breaks. There's something in my sig if you're interested, I'm not sure if they're all still online though.

Didn't actually like it much at all until I got the Spectral Balance mix. Much better and more class for sure. The original is just way too run of the mill.

Ahhh..nice...trance influenced breaks would be along the lines of Hybrid correct? Influences from Lemon 8 too maybe?
Anyways, will check and see if your stuff is still online.
