Google integrates Keyhole into Google Maps

quote:

ave you ever wished you could see what someplace looked like before you got there? A house? A hotel? A freeway exit? We thought you might find it useful, so we've incorporated Keyhole technology into Google Maps and Google Local. Now when you type an address into Google Maps, you can click the 'Satellite' link and see a view of the area. You can zoom, move the view by dragging, and even resize the window just like the normal 'Maps' view. Looking for a new apartment or house? Type in an address you're considering, get a view from the air and, with a quick local search, find out if you can walk to your favorite Saturday morning cup of coffee. Thinking about spending time at the shore this summer? Search for hotels with Google Local and check out the "beach" in "beachfront." You can even see driving directions with real images. We can't promise you'll never miss another freeway exit, but we do think that Google Maps + Keyhole gives you a great way to see and explore your world. But take a look for yourself and let us know what you think.

GM Keyhole

Been looking forward to this feature for a while now ! Unfortunately support within Canada is still limited; however I was able to view my home reasonably well.

Gotta love gmail's infinity+1 storage upgrade. Everyone should have 2+ Gigs of storage by now, with that number going up every day. The main gmail page (http://gmail.google.com/) has a storage counter counting up...

G is for growth
Storage is an important part of email, but that doesn't mean you should have to worry about it. To celebrate our one-year birthday, we're giving everyone one more gigabyte. But why stop the party there? Our plan is to continue growing your storage beyond 2GBs by giving you more space as we are able. We know that email will only become more important in people's lives, and we want Gmail to keep up with our users and their needs. From Gmail, you can expect more.

Oh this was the gmail page April 1st...

https://www.google.com/accounts/Ser...%3Dl<mpl=wyze

Welcome to Gmail A Google approach to math. On the eve of Gmail's one-year birthday, our engineers were toiling away furiously. Notes scribbled all over the walls. Complex calculations on napkins and empty pizza boxes. Millions of M&Ms. The result?... starting today, we're beginning the roll-out of our new and top secret Infinity+1 storage plan. The key features are: Write, don't worry. You want to stop caring about storage. We want to keep giving you more. Today, and beyond. The gift that keeps on giving. 1102.353769 megabytes of storage (and counting) for every user. No complicated equations. No tough algorithms. Just this one graph: Gmail turns 1 today. And we've always loved a good joke. We know we won't reach infinity, but check out what we will do...

Google keeps releasing stuff on April 1st -- everyone last year thought 1G+ of email storage was an April fools joke...

Unfortunately however Google Gulp was a joke...

Google Ride Finder Announced.

http://labs.google.com/ridefinder

Need a ride? Now Google has included the ability to lookup where taxis are in real time! The new service is called Google Ride Finder. Using a combination of Google Maps and Google Local you can see where certain taxis are at the moment. Currently there are only 11 major cities that are supported, and there are still only a few cab companies that are involved. The service is pretty cool, but if they don't add more cities/companies, who knows how well it will do. For more info check out Google's Blog. http://www.google.com/googleblog/2005/03/need-ride.html

Google Search By Number

"Well, Google has done it again. This time, simply enter any tracking number or id number into the Google search box, and Voila! You have a link to the shipper and tracking information. They have a funny little mom/son tech talk bit on the blog about this."

WOHOO !! Great News !

Google finally adds the ability to view user submited videos !!

quote:

A couple of months ago we launched a video uploader so you could add your own videos to Google Video. Well, now we're ready to start displaying all that stuff.

I've been amazed by your cool videos. I had never seen a robot dog harassing an iguana before, or a monkey doing karate, and I had no idea you were such good dancers. There's more than home video, too - like this UNICEF story featuring David Beckham.

The clips play right in the page using the brand new Google Video Viewer, which was created by our engineer Aaron Lee using code from the open source Videolan project. It works great in both Firefox and IE, and we've designed it not to fight with any other video plugins you might have. We're releasing the Windows version first, with Mac coming soon.

A feature we're especially pleased with is search within a video, which means you will get a result pointing to the precise spot in the video that matches your query. Try looking for sergey brin and you'll see what I mean. There are even more people getting creative with video here. So have fun watching, or shoot your own videos - and keep sending them in!

Basically you can submit your own videos and Google will host them free. Awesome.

A quick test: I searched for 'Tiesto' and found 5 viewable videos.

The main issue I have with this right now is that I can't search just viewable videos (a lot of videos that Google finds still aren't viewable)

PS. One of the Tiesto videos that I found is of Tiesto playing at Aria in Montreal. I've been at that party. WOhoo
