I get earplugs at work and there are several kinds to choose from as well.I wear ear protection at work AND when I go to a club. There's NO WAY I could bear the volumes blasting in places like the Guv or Koolhaus or Viva.I had my hearing checked at work last year and my hearing was ok (thank God ).I just can't bear living in total silence when I get older & not being able to listen to music because of some bad choices from early on in my life.If I had a choice between blindness & defness then I would choose blindness.I think I would actually go mad if I lost ALL of my hearing.

I was wondering Jayx1 if you had your hearing checked just to see if you did sustain any damage from DJing

I KNOW I have done damage to my hearing. I often get ringing, sometimes I can't hear at all for a couple seconds, I have a hard time hearing people talk at times, I always have to turn the TV up to hear it properly.

I should get my hearing tested.

I think it is largely due to the fact that I am always listening to music with headphones, VERY LOUDLY! And never mind the clubs where I dance RIGHT BESIDE the speakers. Yea, probably a dumb move.

It isn't severely bad right now, but sometimes it gets frusterating when I ask people to repeat themselves several times.

Oh well, I wont worry about it right now, but I am turning my headphones down...

My ears are fucked -- I can even tell that I've now got one ear hearing better (or worse) than the other (monitoring ear is weaker). Yes I'm worried. My hearing has noticeably deteriorated over even just the last year or so, let alone whatever damage was done beforehand while walking past some of the big-ass stacks at the old BLC parties for example. Ack! Those hurt!

If anyone has a link to someplace that sells custom pro earplugs, please let me know (or perhaps I should see my local audiologist?). I've tried tons of conventional earplugs and hate them all. Hmmm... Cost is not too much of an issue. I work in a loud environment (heavy machinery constantly running @ high RPM), so my benefit plan will likely cover them...

Agreed. You can be standing right in front of the stacks there, with that system cranked, and there's absolutely no pain -- it's just so LUSH! Proof that it really is all about the 'bad sound'/interference/distortion that our engineer types are talking about.

They have an audiologist that is there 3 days a week or so to do tests - tests cost ~$30. I had the audiologist write a script for the attenuators and then just submitted a claim to my work insurance - viola it was paid.

Excellent! Thanks RJ! I think i'll check em out tomorrow. My work insurance should cover this as well -- and of not, well... you can't really be a trance addict if you can't hear the trance, so this would be a good investment.

For now I use the el-cheapo Shoppers Drug Mart ear plugs. Unfortunately the cheap ones tend to block out quite a bit of the frequency band. I think someone was telling me that they make earplugs based on hearing aids that reproduce all the frequencies, just at a lower decibel level.

Do you have to have a particular reason for submitting earplugs under insurance?
