I was raised in a pro-bush family but I voted Badnarik. I was born in Cali but raised in the bible belt south. I woudln't say that all of the Bush supporters are stupid rednecks, but it is true that alot of them are. There really isn't any one generalization that can truthfully explain what happened. The polls seemed to show that the Bush vote went to people whose priorities were cultural values and homeland security, both of which are issues rooted in fear, but we all know these polls are a load of crap, so there is no way to tell if everybody felt the same way.
Can we really put any blame on these people for being scared? If your way of life and your safety were being threatened would you not vote for the man who swears to protect it? Everyone in this country has different values and different ideas, what makes America so great is that we still manage to function withouth killing each other(even though we have the #1 murder rate, hmmmm). Our system of checks and balances allows people with all these major differences to live somewhat harmoniously.
We are all very different and our values often clash. You must expect this to happen in a place where so many different people come together. The best we can do is to try and make the best out of the situation. Calling all the bush supporters stupid rednecks does nothing to make our country better, it just increases hate and bigotry and ends up hurting everybody.
There are plenty of things we all could be doing to improve the world's opinion of us, we don't need to place all the blame on our government. If we all reduced our consumption there wouldn't be so many foreigners pissed off that we are taking stuff from their back yards while thay can barely find clean water. If we all showed a slight hint of concern for other people in the world, or even respect for each other's differences, then there wouldn't be nearly as much hate directed our way.
If we give up our good spirits just because our desired candidate didn't when, then we will truely be sorry ass americans. Instead of instulting and complaining we could really be doing alot of good things that could easily overshadow one dude's presidential fuck-ups.
