I think Push finished this thread off! Well said!

I do think some people are being overly critical on occasion tho. We are in the USA, not Europe, so therefore Djs play down to our level no matter who they are. You can hear brand new tunes at Ibiza cause thats like the World Series, you bring your 'A' game with you. As for Tiesto fucking up 10+ times in Minnesota, frankly I am amazed he played there and you should prolly be thankful. Tiesto will NOT be coming to Michigan in the forseeable future, nor has he been to Colorado yet. These are the places I really only have access to this type of music, but BELIEVE ME, if I ever get the chance I am damn thankful for the experience whether its was my best or not...late/

I think ppl are critical because they expect a certain level of performance...if i pay $5 and go and see DJ Joe then I'm not going to write a critque on him...but this is Tiesto we are talking about. The fact that he is a big name DJ and we are paying $30 to see him is the reason why ppl are disappointed when he does not produce the goods.

As far as playing in America being the reason he was not up to par. I don't agree with that. Many top DJ's come to America and give outstanding sets...just cause we are in N America does not mean we don't know about music...I hate it when ppl assume that ppl in N America don't know shit about trance...that's bullshit. Anyway I can only assume that Tiesto did not give his best last time round that's why I'll definately go and hear him again.

Yeah hearing him do it once, twice, three times fine. But just think we in NyC got to see Paul every other month...we heard for an angel PLENTY of times...for him to keep closing with it here and at other places is weak...I luv PvD but hes got faults too...like spinning Tell me Why twice in a nite...and shit like that. But paul has an knack for being able to just hit you hard and switch stuff up. I think words isnt a good choice for a closing song..but Another Way would def be awesome....I luv when he busts out Cream...he did it in April of 01 at Twilo and before that he hadnt spun it there in AGES! He seems to be pretty good at rotating his productions throughout his set so it doesnt seem like self promotion.

I want PVD to bring some of his other older tunes into rotation....

anyone ever hear him drop "Forbidden Fruit" or "Seven Ways" ??? Ahhh those are true masterpieces...even "Namastai" would be pretty cool to hear once again in a club.

I agree that PVD has been overplaying some of his recent tunes...It's time he stopped dropping "We are Alive" I don't mind the tune that much but it's really featured in almost every set of his and It's not that great a tune. Also when it comes to For an Angel, I'd love to hear him drop the Astrax mix or the Way out West mix of that tune....not for an encore of course but during his set. I can so imagine him dropping For an Angel (Ashtrax Mix) as his second or third tune in his sets.

Have you guys noticed that, lately, Tiesto ALWAYS plays Hidden Flight/ Flight 643/ Fancy Fair??? I mean....you can dig a certain mix, but to play it al over? My bf also has his fave records to mix but he likes to try new records to see if they even improve that mix...logical ey?

Anywayz, I agree with TG about ...avtually... everything, but mainly 1 thing...PVD IS GOD!!!

PVD like most DJ's loves to finish with a Bang and those tunes are not the kinda one's he'd use to finish his types of sets.

\
I remember he spun a really short 20 min encore set at Twilo once....If memory serves me correct it was :

Des Mitchell - Welcome to the Dance
Thrillseekers - Synaesthia (PVD Mix) <- Months before it was released
PVD - For an Angel

Now that's a fucking encore.....left the crowd drolling for more PVD
He beat those tunes to death!!! I just think that Paul doesn't need to relie on For an Angel anymore. It's not like he's some 1 hit wonder. He made that tune in 93...he has made so many other brilliant tunes that are relatively unknown b/c he doesn't close with them. EVERYONE knows for an angel & half the crowd wants to hear it, the other half thinks its tired.

Biznology: IBIZA is NOT the place for fresh tunes. Ibiza is about PARTYING! I was there for a month & was musically disappointed. The Winter Music Conference in Miami is where DJ's from all around the world gather to show off their skills. It might be in Vegas this year.

For the Record..I paid $35 to see Tiesto, others paid up to $46.

ok i apparently am overusing Ibiza as an example but i am simply just saying that Europe is where all this stuff begins, and so far the logical progression of trance has been Europe, Canada and then the US. i understand that they are performers and should display a decent amount of enthusiasm, etc., but they are just DJs, its mainly about track selection and mixing, and not much else. As Orbital said 'DJs are the pop stars of electronic music' so you dont always have to get your panties in a twist over them. As far as any 'performance' goes, live PA artists have been better than ALL DJs I have seen thus far, well except for maybe Uberzone, but thats really more of a taste issue than anything else, hes ok. i think being TAs we fail to realize occasionally that most people dont have any opinion on anything we do here, and also that we exalt DJs like Tiesto to an almost mythical level. Some of my greatest experiences have come from those I never expected it from like BT, before I knew who he was (also a live artist). late/

Hmmmm I never said that he should finish his recent sets with the above mentioned tunes...Like I said, I prefere it when he finished with an encore set rather then just play the whole of For an Angel.

BTW. I do agree that PVD has many tunes that he could close with but Face 2 Face is not one of them...if u know music (and u say u do) then u'll realize that PVD would never finish with a tune like Face 2 Face, it's not powerfull nuff for the great man. He'd drop that tune somewhere in the middle of a set.

Also. People who know PVD's music know that For an Angel is just one of his great productions...but for the rest of the masses it's the song that people associate with PVD and that's why he drops it as an encore. I've seen PVD quite a few times and he always drops Angel somewhere in his set and ppl still love it. Personally I would love to hear him drop other mixes of that tune but the E-Werk Mix is undoubtely the best. My fav PVD tune still remains "Forbidden Fruit" and "Avenue"....those are true masterpieces...
