your north american education and passport puts you in the 2nd best class, right after the locals, not bad

Dubai wants to be a financial and service center between the far east and Europe. Meaning that when the markets close in the far east, you can start trading in Dubai hours before European markets open.

Same for the services, where big companies like let say IBM can offer 24h tech support for example, when you call at a certain time in the middle of the night, the Dubai offices would pick up the call because they're in the middle of the day. It would cost less to pay the employees to work during the day in Dubai than let say pay them bonuses to pay in the middle of the night in North America...

anyways, i hope i got my point across.

Dubai is the hub of a developing region (not that they're not developed). It will service growing economies which are becoming less dependent on resource-based income. It will be a major centre for a region of ~1-2 billion people.

Take China as an example. Building cities from scratch. It's not building for the present, it's building for the near future. Much of the economic clout of the western world is fast disappearing to emerging markets like the middle east and asia. Capital is pouring in like you can't imagine.

that dear middle east... where nothing gets done

yeah they're developping, but they'll never catch up the western world

Look at the speed of development in China (8-10% a year), it still needs 50 years of that kind of development to be considered a fairly developped country (as said by Chinese govt.) People think about Shangai when they hear China, forgetting that the vast majority of the country is still very rural and poor.

China's economic growth is unprecedented considering how watchful the government is of it's economy. Analysts say that the Chinese want to build a firm infastructure while communist to prevent any chance of a market collapse, then open key points of free trade throughout the entire country to sky rocket it's economic growth. What does this mean? It'll certainly catch up to the west, at the expense of the western economy and the environment. Global warming X 10. Get used to +15*C one week, and -21*C the next.

You'd be surprised. In the past 100 years, THE world power went from Britain, to Nazi Germany (they needed a massive multinational army to take them down) to the USA. Alot can happen in a lifetime.

i dont like this plane (design). the nose is just ugly. the boeing 747 is much better. however, airbus A330 is my favorite. the wings look beautiful when it takes off and lands.

Leonardo DiCaprio is a bit annoying to watch (for me at least) - the guy looks like a 16 year old kid all the time And I'm jealous cause he has Gisele Bundchen

I swear when I was a kid, the one time I went to Israel on El Al Airlines, they had a double-decker plane. It was the only time I've seen one- i dunno which model it was, tho. I remember the spiral staircase it had. I never went upstairs, tho I wanted to.

There was talk of El Al buying one of these airbuses a while back, cuz they wanted to put in a chapel for all those religious Jews to pray in. Putting in a gym is a great idea, cuz there's a risk of getting blood clots in legs when at high altitudes, when sitting for long periods. U can only move around in the aisles so much, dodging the food and drink carts.
