I couldn't remember exactly how or when I was introduced to EDM, but my guess is that it started back in 1989-90. I was five years old back then. I remember listening to Technotronic's "Pump Up the Jam" at the time. I also remember "Strike It Up" by Black Box.

My earliest record of listening to trance was in early '99 when I heard "Rain" by Brainbug. I didn't become officially hooked on trance until a year after when a friend of mine gave me a CD with all these dance tracks (most of them were trance). It had Sasha's "Xpander," ATB's "9PM (Till I Come)," Mauro Picotto's "Lizard," Veracocha's "Carte Blanche," Alice Deejay's "Better Off Alone," and more. "Better Off Alone" was a timeless classic for me.

First CD I ever bought was Prodigy - Fat of the Land. I really never listened to much music besides classical before then, but I heard Breath on the radio and loved it. Next followed a lot of mainstream music, w/ Haddaway - What is Love? thrown in from Ultimate Dancd Party '98, b/c I wanted "that song from the SNL skit." Then things were quiet for a while until around 2000 when a friend of mine suggested I listen to these CDs he had burned. Darude - Sandstorm, the Braveheart theme remix, Mortal Kombat theme, and the DJ Berra Club Trance Megamix being some of the more memorable tracks. I was really interested in this type of music, fortunately I had another friend who liked it too who gave me a listen to Perfecto Presents Another World, Hybrid - Wider Angle, and Daft Punk - Discovery. Then thanks to Napster searches for "techno", my familiarity slowly began to grow.

I look back on those early days with some embarassment, although those tracks still have some nostalgic value for me. 'cept for Hybrid, that was killer stuff to start out with, I still love it.

Well I've liked dance music since I was 8, when some one got me Prodigy's Fat of The Land [brand new at the time] But that didn't really go anywhere.

Then in 2001 I got into Aphex Twin. From there I explored what else there was out there..

I vividly remember when Depeche Mode's People are People came out, and I was hooked... loved Joy Division/New Order , THe Cure, Anne Clark, I could keep going. I married the DJ from the club I went to, still into it and love it... been really cool to see it evolve

My history of music

Robert Miles - Children was my favorite when I was a little kid
Prodigy
Party Animals (I own like all made stuff by Flamman & Abraxas till 1999) + all other happy hardcore

[.... some pop music]

Alice Deejay
ATB

[some hardrock + Metallica]

[Hardrock bored, started listening to pop again]

Tiesto - In Search Of Sunrise 3 [still my favorite CD ever]
Cosmic Gate - The truth

Somewhere in 2003 some guy gave me a link to ASOT stream (episode with M.I.K.E.), Push - Universal Nation 2003 (Ferry Corsten Remix) was dropt. My trance hype started with that track. Got here because Freezel posted the tracklist link into the asot irc chatroom.
