you are not being very nice in this statement.

why does her name have to totally disappear, is it not good enough?

but as it goes, you can never decide like this unless you are actually getting married.

i have three kids and the first has my last name and the second has the fathers and my third has both! So it can be a complex situ- if both parents are from two different cultures. If there's a decision to be made i wish you better luck than i had!

id keep my last, i dont want kids so that answers that question. hypothetically speaking,,,, if i did have a kid,, the last name would depend, i think i have a pretty good last name... but if the person i marry has a nicer one then,, theyd get that one.

I would think that would be my children's decision as to how they want to name their kids.

Pretty much my opinion.

Actually in some cultures, (I know in Korean culture) wives keep their maiden name. I don't know why some cultures put tremendous importance on wives taking their husbands' names. After all, it is the love that is most imporant, no?

And those of you who said depends on whether the name sounds nice or not, do you not think that's kinda shallow? Are you going to be a cooler person because you have a cool sounding last name?
