I'm going to offer a slightly different perspective.
In my experience there are 3 categories of people in relation with the whole Edm/Drugs/clubbing issue :
a) Those who go to clubs/raves/gatherings simply to get high on e/crack/marijuana or any other substance simply because they are far easily available as opposed to getting it from their regular source. In addition, being united with hundreds of like-minded people further enhances that experience and makes it quite unique. These people simply say that EDM music is ONLY worth listening to when high. Thefore, drugs come first, music comes later as icing on the cake and a potential catalyst to enhance their experience. More often than not, they are substance abusers of various degrees.
b)People who love the music and do not belive that drugs are a necessity to enjoy the music. These people are content with alcohol and/or cigarettes and with the company of their friends. This group of people refrain from drugs in general. I fall into this category.
c)People who are going for just the music/dancing/fooling around. They may be in the company of others who fall into the first and second category but are not intimidated in any way if offered a pill/joint/drink or cigarette. They are content with the music.
d)People who love the music and are substance users just for the fun of it. They may or may not be substance abusers.
On a more personal level, my friends fall into all 3 categories.
I am a clubber and a DJ but I have never felt the need to depend on any substance to make my clubbing/DJ'ing experience a better one.
