Interac Online

Never used this online payment method yet (Credit Card is fine by me) but this offers more security because you have to authorize the transaction from your online banking service.

Internal memo FYI:

-------------------------------------------------------
Date:
June 23, 2005
To:
All Scotiabank Group Branches
Subject:
Interac Online

Effective June 25, 2005, Scotiabank customers can start using their ScotiaCard to pay for goods and services purchased over the Internet using Interac Online to debit their business and day-to-day bank account.

The Service

Interac Online is a debit card payment service designed specifically for the Internet. Interac Online provides customers with an alternative payment option to credit cards and other payment services when shopping online.

How Will the Service Work?

Merchants who offer the Interac Online service will display the following distinctive logo.

When a customer indicates that they wish to pay using Interac Online, they will be automatically redirected to an Interac Online website that will display the names and logos of all the Financial Institutions participating in the Interac Online service. Customers will then select the Scotiabank logo.

The customer will be presented with the Scotia OnLine Sign On screen where they can enter their ScotiaCard number and Scotia OnLine password.

Note:
In order to use Interac Online, the customer must be activated for Scotia OnLine.

Once the customer has successfully signed-on to Scotia OnLine, they will be presented with the details of their purchase (i.e., name of the merchant and amount of the purchase).

The customer must select the account from which they wish to pay, and confirm the transaction. Upon successful confirmation of the transaction the customer will be signed-off from Scotia OnLine.

The customer will then be redirected to a confirmation page on the merchant’s website, following which the merchant will proceed to fulfill their order.
Top of Page

Transactions Processed Using Interac Online

Customer’s financial details - including ScotiaCard number, password, account number, or personal information - are not disclosed to the online merchant.

Interac Online is available only in Canadian currency. Online merchants who accept Interac Online as a payment option must sell their goods and services in Canadian dollars on their website.

Interac Online transactions will display the prefix “IPOS” prior to the merchant’s name on customer statements and passbooks.

Fees

A Cardholder Service Fee of $1.50 per transaction will be applied and posted separately to the customer’s account.

Interac Online transactions will count towards the customer’s monthly transactions as specified in their account plan and regular account level service fees will apply.

Note:
To encourage the use of the Interac Online, advise customers that Scotiabank will automatically waive the $1.50 service fee until October 31, 2005.

Interac Online Policy

Interac Online is similar to Interac Point-of-Sale; thus, the same policies and procedures apply.

Scotiabank acts only as a payment facilitator and will not be held liable in any disputes between the customer and the merchant.

The ScotiaCard Cardholder Agreement governs the use of Interac Online and the Debit Code of Practice will apply to Interac Online transactions.

Customers are to be encouraged to review our Safe Computing Practices.

These transactions are included as part of the customers daily/weekly Direct Payment (Point-of-Sale) transaction limits.

Inquiries

Customers are to direct all inquiries regarding their purchase to the merchant from whom they made the purchase.

For declined, unrecognized, or disputed transaction inquiries, refer to the ScotiaCard Customer Complaint Resolution Job Aid (below) for direction.

Additional information on Interac Online can be found at www.scotiabank.com/interaconline or www.interaconline.com.

TD. And TD Waterhouse which is being sold to a USA company (Ameritrade?).

TD Bank has a deal where they give you an Apple iPod Shuffle if you transfer your checking account there. Anyone trying this offer?

I have a little bit amassed on one of my credit cards... but ive been bouncing it around between all of them, as I keep getting offers of like 3% interest for X number of months all the time.

Unless I get a new low interest offer from another of my cards before Sept. or Oct (when my current reduced interest rate will expire), ill be doing exactly this, taking out a small line of credit and moving it over to that so i never pay that damn 19% interest bullshit.
