Its a paradox. Djing is about appealing to people, however the scene cannot move forward unless people are willing to push the sound in new directions. Sometimes this will be met by failure and I believe this deters many. Many more find it easy to feed off of the latest sound, trance in the late 90s and I guess you could say tech-house now. EDM, however, has changed and evolved in a way no other genre of music has and will continue to do so. New sounds will be introduced, played to death, and then something different will come along. Think Benassi's- Satisfaction sound. What I am trying to say is, I have faith in the genre, as fans will never get bored of the music. Some may be turned off by new directions the genre is heading, but the genre will never grow stale. As for the question are the fans killing the genre, nonsense. If the genre fails (and I guess a fair judge failing is lack of audience emotion or lack of one all together, as EDM is THE ideal live genre) will be the fault of the dj and not the fan. If any DJ tells you any different, remind him what his job is.

i guess. but i don't see any other reason why he believes tracklistings are evil. ah well, not that i really give a rat's ass. |
Ok, I was outdated; sorry. And THX @ that interview. I disagree with his embargo on playlist idea; It's just a terrible waste of collective effort for us when we have to compile dj's tracklists at TA on our own. Well I have my opinion on the subject, but it's late.
