This topic always annoys me.

Every time the general consensus is that eventually everybody grows out of trance and moves on to something that is better, as if it is some fact of life, some step that every person goes through. People mouth off as if this is something everybody experiences, as if we all start off listening to trance then "move up in the world of EDM".

Its a fabrication, a lie, bullshit. Real people don't always necessarily start off listening to trance then move on to prog then to something else, this isn't something that everybody faces, this is a TranceAddict story and nothing more. In real life people are much more diverse, not everybody goes through these steps, im so sick of people acting like starting with trance then changing to breakbeats is some fact of life when it isn't. Sure, you are probably correct in saying that the majority of people who are new listeners of EDM are listening to trance, but that doesn't mean that everybody "grows out of it".

Seriously, it is very VERY easy to find people who take different paths other than this one that people act like is the only one that exists just because lots of kids on this board have done it. It is very easy to find people who started off with something different, moved to a different genre in a different direction.

Beleive it or not, most of the newbies just getting into EDM in my region start off with grimey DnB, then move to grimey breaks, then they eventually get over it and start listening to music that is less obnoxous. People like this are everywhere, lots of people start off with prog and get bored of it then "move up" to other things, some people even act as if they have graduated out of following one genre then start listening to trance.

There is no such thing as this silly hierchy of genres that we make up here at tranceaddict like some ladder of life that we all climb. What really happened was that people on this board started doing this, then other people imitated them because they thought it was cool, then suddenly everybody was acting the same way. This isnt reality, this is just some silly thing kids on this website are doing.

People start out listening to all sorts of music, they get bored of all kinds, there is no graduating from trance and moving to techno train that everybody follows. Some people are actually doing the opposite, some people, believe it or not, aren't growing out of it. This isnt some scientific process, so stop acting like it is ffs .

People arent that predictable, there are hordes out there that don't follow this pattern but we just keep ignoring them thinking the whole world works like our little forum. Crikey this gets annoying.

Yes, people start out with listening to Venetian Snares. New DJs go for professional turntablism techniques before anything else, or why not CDJs, turntables, a 909 and Ableton Live all at once.

Right.

I agree with UnWorldy, in perfect honesty. I never grew out of trance and I didn't start out with just trance. People who make a big deal about moving from trance are probably doing it for the attention.

Just like Ory here, wanking over his latest "real EDM" discovery and shouting about it to anyone who cares and everyone who doesn't.

It's always entertaining to see a thread like this start up every year or so. People always seem to be "growing out of Trance" in a slightly different direction...

The thing that I have never understood is why musical interest is so often seen as an either/or proposition. I've always listened to a wide variety of music, and even when I was in the honeymoon phase with Trance where everything was amazing to me back in 2000 I still was interested in other genres of music (even outside of Dance music, god forbid) and was open to new things.

I think some people just need to stop worrying about the categories and just enjoy the music!

I will admit though that the argument itself has made many of my days at work go by a bit faster. However anoying you all may be, you still keep me entertained when I'm at work. Maybe I should turn some of this typing energy into something more productive.

I get bored of trance from time to time like many other people do, but there always seems to be something different and interesting that I find to keep busy and entertained. I mean, of course I'm past the point of wanking to system f, doesn't mean I've grown out of all trance though, there is way too much of it and I don't have enough time to get bored of every variety.

Maybe im spelling this wrong, but I find myself enjoying this Vadhim Zhukov, I heard a set on ETN one day, fun stuff.

akkare are you here?

Well I never said I was completely leaving trance. What im saying is all I used to listen to and mix was trance. I have gotten bored of it and just want to expand my dance music knowledge. I want to try new things, I want to hear new sounds. There is no doubt that I will always love trance, but the inevitable has happened. I can't just stay confined to trance forever.

yeah, I would encourage you to expand into other areas, I'm never one to tell people what they should be listening to

my ranting was mainly directed at the kids who want everybody to believe that trance is the kindergarten of EDM
