here is what i think is dope.
i got into progressive and trance in the early 90's and have watched it evolve over time. i loved where progressive was in 1998, bordering on trance, very melodic, higher tempos. that year i released a record on limbo (pioneering scottish prog label-defined the genre in 92-93) that was over 140bpm and it fit. i guess it all went wrong when "trance" split away and became super melodic and the proggy peeps went all dark and tribal. i admit i followed the dark route for a while, but always tried to keep it musical. in any event, the progressive trance sounds that have come back, which some of you call mcprog, feel to me like we picked up where we left off in 1998. if the whole prog thing hadnt gone so dark and stuck its head up its own arse we might have got here sooner. but still, i am more excited about the music i am hearing than i have ever been, save perhaps for those halcyon nights in 1991 when it was all just starting for me- which isnt because the music was better, but the whole thing was a brand new world. one which i am happy to still inhabit, 15 years later!
peace and love
