A little late replying to this, but honestly, FFS, you guys sound like broken records. How many times do we have to hear this line? Yes, we know it's possible to produce the same quality music in FLS as it is in Cubase or Logic, it's just a whole lot more difficult and tedious to do so. It's not the sound quality that people complain about, it's the candy-apple non-modular non-Win32-Compliant interface with limited routing capability, lack of delay compensation, noticeable inefficiency, inability to preview tracks in realtime on the "highest" quality setting, very limited in-place audio editing and arrangement capability, immaturity of the MIDI/Sysex automation system, etc. etc.

Are these things show-stoppers? Do they make it "impossible" to create good music? Well, obviously not, but don't bitch at the rest of us because we don't feel like jumping through hoops to perform simple tasks that take all of 3 seconds to do in other sequencers. I don't mean to sound like an arrogant prick, but a lot of tunes I hear coming out of FL are good but also quite simple in their arrangement and structure. As the complexity of a track increases linearly, the time it takes to produce it in FLS seems to grow exponentially for me.

Yes.

Yes.

The same setup I have now.

Yes!

Please people, I never come around here to bash FLS without provocation but I am just so goddamned sick of hearing moronic comments like "you couldn't get good results with FLS because you didn't really learn the program / you don't have any skill as a producer / you bought all your fancy equipment and plugins after you switched". I know how to get good results with Fruity. I can open it up right now and produce a decent tune. I don't want to. It's not a pleasant experience for me!

People can create great graphics in MS Paint doing it pixel by pixel, but that doesn't mean they *should*, or that people who prefer to use Photoshop are somehow less talented artists.

All true.

I love FL for it's sheer incomplexity, and I love cubase for the mind-boggling attention to detail.
The new stuff in FL6 is really nice anyway! Love the sound of the new multiband comp. *thumbs up*

in the step sequencer, there is a bug when you try to add a filter group named something like '---------'.
if there is a minus - before the name of your filter group you can't access to it.

Diginut - no one is trying to get you to use FL. (I don't think?). I cosider Cubase to be very tedious but that's just because FL and Reason work the way I need them to for my own personal style and taste. I am right there with you that I use my sequencer because it's what I WANT to work in.

I get just as tired as anybody else of people telling me what I should use. I say whatever way works best for you. I know that Cubase can do some cool stuff. That's what ReWire is for in my opinion when I need those features. But I can do things extremely fast in FL and I personally find it to be very un-tedious.

Everyone has their own preference. I'll be glad when the sequencer wars are over and we can all live together in peace.

Crikey! Its like the Mac vs PC argument of old.

I've come from a "Tracker" background myself, I used ScreamTracker and Impule Tracker in the early/mid 90's as I was a young, broke high schooler with a pretty mediocre PC. In 97 I got an AWE64 Gold and a master keyboard with bundles CakeWalk Homo Studio and learned that plus trying to push WAV files into the 24mb of RAM on my sound card. That wasnt fun. My only other experience of sequencing was Notator Alpha on the Atari ST which I used at school and that was a load of balls too.

I DL'd FL5 last year and got to grips with it right away, it does what I need and is very quick at putting things together and I wouldnt say my music is very advanced or hard to make so its the perfect partner for me.

Different strokes for different folks and with its low price, compatibility and easy learning curve, I like it.

so FL can't.

have you ever heard any productions by Icone or Static Blue ?

it really doesn't matter which sequencer you use, the only thing that matters is music.

O shut up!!! If use strugle using Cubase, Reason or ProTools then use FL. FL is no doubt aimed for the less experienced sequence user. And for ppl who say that FL can compete with SX, Reason and ProTools I have no hope. All FL is good for is impressing your grandmother who knows nothing about music.

And I know that im going to get bad replies to this so in advance - FUCK YOU 2

I have heard some retarded statements in this thread. firstly nothing is really tedious in FL its actually easier. did you know octagen uses FL? or how about pendulum? im not sitting here saying hey go use FL but get off of your high horse....its a freaking sequencer.

I will admit most users of fl are newbies. However that does not mean that if you use cubase your track will be more complex??? thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard

no one is saying for you to use fl studio
