I actually got to work quicker than normal.

7am Walked outside the nj transit bus was right there. Several ppl were parked right by the bus stop looking for people to car pool with. I just hopped on the bus anyways. The bus was pretty much empty. No traffic at lincoln tunnel either.

7.15 got to Port Authority. No shortage of cabs. However, since I was already bundled up, and still sleepy, I decided to walk. Walking always wakes me up.

7.30 got to work.

No complaints here. Except that if it gets too cold, or if I'm lazy, I can't just take the bus/subway back to port authority.

maybe this will spur a debate on the constitutionality of the taylor law itself (which has only existed since '67 - written by and named for a wharton prof. for the penn alums that are on here =) )

last strike in 1980 was in april (not during holidaytime) and lasted 11 days btw...

They were supposed to have pick ups similar to the M15 bus line on the east side. Her and some of her friends that live near us got a cab around 25-30th St. for $5 each up to 60th street and she was to work by 9:05. It took her less time than when she takes the bus.

She said that 1st Ave's traffic wasn't too bad, actually. I'm watching the coverage on TV at home, though, and they're showing 96th St. as being the barrier that no one can cross because the cops are checking every car for enough passengers. Also, they're making trucks pull over, which is backing things up. The BQE is awful, as well as the Lincoln Tunnel because of people who didn't pay attention to the restrictions and are now being turned back or detoured.

BTW, glad to see that people on here aren't nearly as selfish as most of the people being interviewed on TV. It's inconvenient for everyone and it sucks because you can't get around, get to work, etc., but at least it seems like a lot of people who have responded in this thread look at things from both sides of things. Some guy on TV actually said he thinks that ALL 30,000+ employess should be fired for striking.

Lastly, am I the only one who feels like these contracts shouldn't be expiring in December, but some better month, like May, when people wouldn't freeze walking around. The blackout sucked, but when I walked over 10 miles home, it wasn't nearly as bad as if it were to happen today.
see my friend thats where we have yo disagree remember what i said bout how the tailor law favors the business simply because of the fact that if the unions strike then there are penalties which means that unions can t just up an and strike like normal ppl which means that the companies have a lot more power the only protection that unions have particularly twu is to strike when its most convienient which would be around christmas time since there is a lot of revenue to be made in the city if the strikes were held during warmer weather mta wouldn t not mind the fact that the strike is on follow what im saying?

My Cell Bio final is postponed... I got a 92 on my 3rd Cell Bio exam, and Im expecting an email from my Genetics teacher with the final exam.

This sucks...I have to walk 110 blocks to work, which is a good thing in the day (get those lbs off) but I am worried about coming back at 12 am when I am done

Wonder how much it would cost for a cab?? (or how hard it is to get one?)

btw in my opinion I am not mad at the strikers, they gotta do what they gotta do

Midtown around park ave in the 50s was actually really quiet during rush hour. A lot less traffic than usual and lots of ride sharing in all the cabs. I Actually got to work quicker since there were no crazy people running red lights at every cross walk...

The MTA can't pull the wool over your eyes.

But seriously, the MTA has not only a surplus but it has a net worth in the tens of billions of dollars. All the workers ask is a little piece of the 1 billion dollar surplus pie. Enough to cover the raises, benefits and retirees.
