I'll use an analogy: claiming you have a music collection that is nothing more than a handful of CDs and gigabytes upon gigabytes of mp3s is like someone claiming they have an awesome baseball card collection while all of the cards are reproductions of the real deal.

It's great that people are enjoying music, but you really need to compensate those who are entertaining you. And it's just wrong to call it a "collection." I know that's a semantics thing, but it just bugs me.

i think this is a real good analogy.
because of the mediocrity of what really is disk space, since we can now purcahse 200gb drives off the shelves for under $70 , anyone can pile up on an mp3 collection.

the term "quality, not quantity" suits best for this thread. having 1 rare live set that no one has rates higher than 1000 mp3s that everyone has. this doesn't mean to raid a dj's house , steal his secret production works, and claim that you have that dj's rare production material that no one has. please.

remember. quality > quantity.

and that doesn't mean ranting about how many tiesto and pvd sets you have also.

agreed. i would own authentic hard copies of every single piece of music i love if i could... it's just that in the "digital age" with so many advancements in technology, it's just easier and more convenient to store/organize/buy music digitally.

believe me... i'd rather show off an entire wall-case of vinyls and CDs instead of my external hard drive.

although my hard drive is pretty freakin' sweet...

Now that's where your argument goes to the crapper. Pun intended. I say this mainly because you try to redefine what the word 'collection' means which is the major flaw in your statement. Just because you find a "load of mp3s" non-analogous to having the real feel of vinyl or cd doesn't take away that it's a collection. One thing is to find mp3s not aesthectically pleasing and another thing is trying to redefine what a word means.

About 100gb of livesets, including all J00f & Nu NRG sets.

All singles are bought through paid download stores - I'd much rather pay the €1.50 or whatever and support the artist. Only time Id download singles is to check and crack old/unreleased track IDs when theres no easy to find sample on the Internet. Then I delete them again.
