cocaine used to be a major ingredient in cough syrups, pain relievers, dental remedies and name brand soda at the turn of the 20th century..heroin was developed for civil war veterans so they could kick the habit of morphine, which was the first medicinal opiate that was mass developed. and methadone was created for heroin addicts..and ppl are addicted to all three. oh and I read or overheard somewhere that when the U.S. was first settled, marijuana was a regularly harvested crop.

not to steer everyone away from discussing their drugs, but back to the pvd thing...
i know he formerly was firmly anti-drug. don't take drugs, don't think drugs, etc. what he says in this interview is that you don't need drugs to enjoy his music. am i the only one who thinks that's great? edm has a horrible, strung out reputation and i love to see high-profile people in the industry combatting that image. i work in media and every time i pitch and article even tangentially related to edm all i get is jokes about glow sticks and candy ravers. i can't wait for that to change.
do you honestly believe it's hypocritical for him to do drugs (i haven't been to one of his gigs in a while, but he's clearly not a wasted addict.) and then say dance music doesn't have to be about drugs? personally, i think the more people who are putting out this message the better.

it's inevitable drugs and edm will be associated with each other. When it involves music and dancing it is unavoidable. People do drugs when they go out and dance, whether its chillin to the grooves of phish or rockin it at studio 54 in 1978.
