digging around in my vinyl

So as I was digging I found two tracks Ferry Corsten did under the Alias Gouryella, First up is Binary finary 2000 (Gouryella rmx) Next is Gouryella - Ligaya (Ferry Corsten rmx) . . . I figure I will bring both to see if I can get him to sign them

Ha! Stealing a Net connection in Pflugerville. Nyah!!

The quick and dirty: Got there well before the doors opened, which turned out to be a good thing since I flaked and forgot that SXSW is in swing, so traffic was kinda monstrous and the parking was even worse. Still, I found a spot about two blocks from Sky and paid $7 for it, so I guess I can't bitch too much.

They opened a wee bit late, much to the consternation of the line that had already begun to form outside and had to stand in the drizzle with a north wind blowing. Boo-hoo. Slunk in with a wristband and a stamp on or about 2115, and Andrew was already in full swing (he'd actually started before they began letting folks in). After the initial crowd wandered in and settled down to await the arrival of Ferry Corsten, Dave + entourage arrived at about 30 after. I guess I have a memorable face, because Dave picked me right out while I was lounging, and I hadn't even seen him come in by that point. He'd done his rounds and had to go prep to go on as soon as Andrew relinquished the throne, but just like at Antro with Crystal Method, he said something to the effect of: "I have no idea what I'm going to play, so I'm just going to put on some really unique shit." That was when I started drinking in earnest, and since the bartender knew what a Thunderbolt was, that was my poison of the evening. Over and over again.

I think it's pretty safe to say that Andrew tied the club into the chair and cinched the knots tight with his set, because the crowd just kept getting bigger and bigger and more and more folks gravitated away from the bar and into the dance area. Dave gets up on the decks, and shoots the strapped-down club in the head. Twice. His off-the-cuff "unique shit" rocked ass like no one's business for an hour or so. His set tonight killed the one he did at Antro, and that was a no-joke set. Superb. I didn't sit down again the entire time.

Matthias shows up about midway through Dave's set or a little sooner, and he's getting into it, too. By the time Dave's done dumping slugs into the face and neck of the club, the place is pretty packed, it's getting hard to move, folks are jamming, and there are still more people coming in. So Matthias comes in and the club is already dead in the chair with a fatal but not serious case of lead overdose. What does he do?

He sticks a spoon in the club's eye socket, scoops out what's there, and skullfucks it.

About a third of the way through Matthias' set, I was starting to wonder if I was going to have anything left for Ferry Corsten. Matthias slaughtered the place and made them love it. It just did not get any better for opening acts, between Andrew, Dave, and Matthias the place was jam-packed, almost no one was sitting down (even upstairs, and I did check). It was a madhouse, and it just flat-out stayed that way for the whole night. I think I was on Thunderbolt 11 or 12 when Matthias finally gave up control. I then finally got to meet him (briefly) and pay off my drink debt. Had I realized that Dave's entourage was Packer and Cubano prior to the end of the night, I'd have met them, too. Another time.

The club, strapped in the chair, with a dozen gunshot wounds and a freshly-fucked skull, was then thoroughly dismembered, wrapped in a poncho, and buried deep, courtesy of the good Mr. Corsten. Ferry practically tore Sky apart, and I ended up sweating all that whiskey right out of me. I'm actually fairly sober to slightly chilled right now, and it's 0418 in the morning. Ferry thrashed Sky until about 0245 or so, then did an encore. Then he signed stuff. Then he took pictures. I think they would have hoisted him out of there on their shoulders if security had allowed it.

All in all, an excellent evening, and a thorough ass-kicking delivered by all. Dave will say some bullshit about a trainwreck somewhere in his set, but I couldn't tell you where it was because I didn't hear one, and I maintain that if there's a trainwreck and no one hears it, then it isn't a wreck. I now have to make a Houston gig, so I can go back to Iraq having at least hit all four of the major Texas cities for sweet sets.

Bones are humming nicely, and I'm calling it a night. I suspect I won't be online again for several hours. Nothing follows, Dealer out.

Great write up, also good getting to meet ya finally bro. Long story short..I had alot of fun tonight, there were a few instances where I simply tossed the headphones aside right before the builds and just danced my ass off to it like everyone else was on the dancefloor..I mean hell why not, that was the BEST sound I had ever heard from that system at Sky and was tempting to run out onto the floor a few times to party it up with everyone else. Awesome crowd.. for those wondering; heres a few tracks I recall playing, in no order besides the first and last 3

Soulshake - Everybody (Chad Lewis mix) (re-edit)
Santiago Nino - Believe (Max Graham Sidechain mix)
Little Green Men - Through With You (Thomas Penton mix)
Mark Knight - Insatiable (MTV & MK dub)
John Dahlback - Nothing Is For Real (Mark Knight remix)
Starkillers - Diskoteka (Kobbe & Austin Leeds mix)
Ferry Corsten - Fire (Robbie Rivera dub) (re-edit)
Thomas Penton - Drawn To The Rhythm (Dub Mix)
Slok - Lonely Child (Satoshi Tomiie 3D dub)
Rachael Starr - Till There Was You (Gabriel & Dresden Club Mix) (rework)
Superbass - Go To Pieces (Jon Gurd Vocal Mix)
Guy Gerber - Stoppage Time (Max Graham Sidechain Mix)
Beckers & Dnox - Jet Lag Slave (original mix)
Luke Dzierzek - Echo (re-edit) (Ferry loved this one!!)

Holy sh1t. Hahaha damn you Zeonfiend, you've set the bar too high as far as reviews go, you poetic son of a bitch! Too bad we didn't cross paths mate... not that either of us would have recognised the other I don't think. Moving on, WHAT A FKN NIGHT!!!!

We rolled up at about 9:40pm after a good 10 minute walk from where we parked ('Buttfuck Egypt' so they say), the three of us, Dave, Carlos and myself, starving as hell. We were running slightly late, so that pitstop at jack in the box was a little too risky to make, and this was only magnified by the parking situation due to SXSW. The reason I mention the starvation is that it's probably a major factor in how wasted I became in such a short time frame. I know that applies to Dave too, the drunk twat.

So we hear the last few tracks of Andrew Parson's set, which were perfect for the setting. I found myself grooving to some traditional melodic riffs, but at the same time the vibe he was creating was not over the top. Rather a loungey mood infact.

I drained dos (that means 2, Nath) dos equis and then Dave stepped up to the decks. I knew he was aiming to play a solid prog set (no signiture 'ignition' style trance here!), being on prior to Matthias. Having heard a lot of Dave's favoUrite prog tracks, but not ever one of his prog sets live, I was looking forward to it. Plus, he had mentioned wanting to drop some prog breaks... Fuck dude! I know this is where I'm supposed to intricately describe the set, but words would not do it justice. Dave's sound was awesome. The people kept piling in and were more than willing to submit to his every musical whim. Add a touch of Jesus-pose, and I can't think of anything I would change about the set.

11pm rolled around and sorry Matt but your set sucked. Bwhahahah just kidding chief it was fkn SOLID!! I had been front and center up until around this time of the night, so for little while I wondered around grooving to Matt's wicked style, chatting to random mates and downing bull blasters. At no point did the crowd ever get thinner, only thicker and more excited. By the second half of Matt's set, any random spectator would have guessed that he was THE headliner of the event... the crowd was going nuts!

Okay so Ferry arrives. Everyone is screaming. He shakes Matt's hand and they have a little chat, and after some quick flipping through his collection Ferry is mixing in his first track. After that, shit got crazy. The effect that someone of Ferry's stature and wicked style of trance can have on me are beyond my comprehension. I just remember being covered in goosebumps and grinning from ear to ear as he flawlessly mixed choon after fucking choon. Hearing Galaxia and Star Traveller live were 2 of the night's many highlights.

So throughout his set, I must admit to bugging Ferry 2 or 3 times to have a look in a small record bag I had in the DJ booth filled with Ferry Corsten productions. There were 16 in total... 14 of mine and 2 of Andrew's. What I wanted was for him to have a look and be like "OH SHIT, PACKER BROUGHT CHOON X, SURE TO PLAY IT". It was a little hard to convey this message to him, and ultimately I failed in my primary goal, but what the hell, it was one hell of a set. Secondary goal was to get some of the wax signed. I had a feeling that there would be a repeat of the Nu-NRG show where upon showing the Italian duo the 10 or so Nu-NRG vinyls I had with me, they proceeded to sign every one of them. I had only asked for Dreamland to be sign

All i know is that the place was Packed, jumping. The crowed was soo into the music...definetely one of the best shows ive attended. I got there a little late cause i was working the door at another club...after meeting a few girls and finally settleing for one I got a few beers and shots then proceeded to Sky. Was like around 1pm but better late than never. , Still payed $15 but it was fooking worth it. You could here the music from the Frost Bank, so i was like .."Daaaaamnn" - It was chaos in side..and i just went crazy when i got to the crowed. i know *Joe* saw me in there but i couldnt locate ryan...the crowed was Max, no way even if i tried. / What kinda sucked was the chick i was with had a friend and she "Had" to find her friend so she had the Will power to pull me away from the show before i could get a pic and such.. , but she would pay later for that grave consequence. / /

I SAW YOU!

I think the short bf with the troll-doll hair was Packer, BTW. Process of elimination suggests that Packer wouldn't wear a Cuba soccer jersey.

Dave: "Guilt Is a Useless Emotion (Bill Hamel vocal mix)" + "Talk (Thin White Duke Mix)" = pwnage.
