While a major part of the issue is not wanting people to have criminal records from possession (so it's good if the cases aren't successfully prosecuted or plead down in court)...it's also about wasting police and court resources. If someone is arrested, charged and goes to court, that's a LOT of money being pissed away. |
exactly. It's such a waste of time to go after somebody who has a gram or two (or four or five) on them. But Conservatives (at least most of them) feel that smoking pot is morally wrong, even though you have a total hypocrite like Ralph Klein, a complete drunk. I've heard this before...it's the gateway drug, etc etc. I'm not even a big pot smoker since I feel sleepy, lazy and unmotivated but if it's a gateway drug, then so are painkillers and booze.
Police should be going after murderers, robbers, rapists, serious drug dealers (cocaine, heroin), etc....not the average joe who likes to blaze up on occasion. But I think you'll find that once this (or if) this administration actually settles in, the pot issue will go back to what it was when Martin was in power...ie, a non issue.
