We might as well just use all the same laws as the US Conforming to others beliefs based on geography is lame.

Luckily not all decisions we make are based on what America thinks of them, although it seems were going that way.

smoking weed is something that should be done somewhat privatly, keep that shit away from school yards and such etc... plus as long as your not a dick cops really wont give a fuck anyways they dont have time for your shit if you have a small amount, plus the liberals didnt really do shit to legalize it anyways..
weed is pretty much legal here anyways ( its like an unspoken canadian law) is long as your not being a dick or comitting a another crime while in possesion you have nothing to worry about.
Just keep smoking and be smart about it

PS we all know goverment sucks ass too...so lets keep it the way it is

Well said my friend! People will continue to smoke weed whether it is legal or not, as we have been for the many years. It is accepted into the Canadian culture (well by a large percentage). Cafes and stores offer smoking products and encourage people to smoke. Cops really dont give a shit if your smoking a joint. Kensington market for example, HotBox Cafe...hmmm i wonder what the stands for? haha, definetly one of my fav spots, and have been there more times then i can count, and have never seen a cop near or inside the place. Around the corner though i did see them bust 2 dudes who were selling bootleged dvds. Governments can make their speeches and do whatever the hell they want, but i honestly dont think it will change the way we canadian feel about our pot smoking. For all you pot smoker out there i encouage you all to come down to the Marijuana march that takes place sometime in May. Such an awsome event...i will share more details closer to the time

while the Liberals dragged their feet forever, I think it's less about the actual laws being changed. Society, in general, certainly won't support legalization and likely won't even widely support formal decriminalization. But if police and the courts stop arresting and prosecuting, the desired end result is still achieved: possession operates under the radar.

But now, according to some criminal lawyers and others, the police are stepping up arrests/charges for possession (don't have sources handy, but it's been in various media reports in recent weeks).

While a major part of the issue is not wanting people to have criminal records from possession (so it's good if the cases aren't successfully prosecuted or plead down in court)...it's also about wasting police and court resources. If someone is arrested, charged and goes to court, that's a LOT of money being pissed away.

exactly. It's such a waste of time to go after somebody who has a gram or two (or four or five) on them. But Conservatives (at least most of them) feel that smoking pot is morally wrong, even though you have a total hypocrite like Ralph Klein, a complete drunk. I've heard this before...it's the gateway drug, etc etc. I'm not even a big pot smoker since I feel sleepy, lazy and unmotivated but if it's a gateway drug, then so are painkillers and booze.

Police should be going after murderers, robbers, rapists, serious drug dealers (cocaine, heroin), etc....not the average joe who likes to blaze up on occasion. But I think you'll find that once this (or if) this administration actually settles in, the pot issue will go back to what it was when Martin was in power...ie, a non issue.

Was the gateway drug thing for the most part not debunked a few years back. Well maybe not debunked, but casts long shadows into the whole theory.

Gateway drug?

Chew on this one for a minute.

I would NEVER have tried pot if I hadn't been a cigarette smoker first.

I'm pretty positive that researchers and many doctors are sure that it's not a gateway drug, but I still hear that rhetoric from conservatives. I was just having this same conversation from a right winger in my history class the other day...he firmly believes it leads to more serious addictions because once you get that high, you want better and more intense ones so even if marijauna is natural, it's still dangerous. I think it's bs.

I think that smoking pot opens your mind to trying new things ... and I honestly think that I would not have tried some of the drugs I've tried had I not smoked pot. Except I looked at them as more of an experimentation. Just to see what it was about, and then went back to my trusty dooby
