I've gotta say of all the mp3 players i have tried, the ipod has the best interface... the touch wheel thing is gold! However sound quality leaves a lot to be desired (something they could remedyby incorporating custom eq), it doesn't have gapless playback, drm to the max. Itunes is shithouse.

Rockbox is well on the way to being fully functional for ipods anyway, hopefully they'll fix all these issues

Other than that I would recommend having a look at the iAudio mp3 players expecially that black one (X5?).

yup, i guess the ipod's interface makes it a winner...
anyways, theres nothing special or different about the ipod, you can buy a product that does the same thing ,for cheaper, and it does the same job, you're paying extra for the image, but each to his own. plus apple's compatability issues, if I want to pay for music off the web, i want to play it anywhere i like, not just on an ipod or on aregistered itunes program...
